Ever notice how the world works? On one side, there's all this flashy media, constantly vying for our attention, keeping us glued to screens. But then, if you glance the other way, you'll see ads promising inner peace and transformation.
In Matt Haig’s book "Reasons to Stay Alive," he talks about how the world seems set up to make us feel down. You know, like if we're too happy with what we've got, why would we keep buying more stuff?
Think about it. How do they sell anti-aging cream? By making us worry about getting old. How about convincing us to vote for a certain party? By making us fret about immigration. And insurance? They make us worry about everything under the sun. Even plastic surgery, they make us think we're not perfect enough.
It's like they want us in a constant state of worry. Like, if we're not stressing about missing out on something or falling behind, we're not buying into their game.
But what if we flip the script? What if being calm and content with who we are becomes the cool thing to do? What if we say no to all the upgrades and just embrace our beautifully messy selves? That wouldn't be good for business, now would it?
So maybe, just maybe, being happy with what we've got is the most rebellious thing we can do.
