Our Chief Operating Officer, Harneet Panesar, moderated the closing panel at this year’s DISTRIBUTECH International. The annual transmission and distribution conference was attended by more than 17,000 participants from around the globe. Titled, “Unleashing the Potential of Electric Vehicles for Future Distribution System Evolution,” the panel explored the convergence of utility operations into the digital sphere, two-way real-time dialogue with customers, and the agile fusion of clean, decentralized energy sources. Panelists shared their insights on grid flexibility and orchestration, the distribution system operator model, distributed energy resources, and the need to manage peaks nimbly by building in system intelligence that supports the rising use of EVs. When it comes to the energy transition, we’re all in this together: the discussion made clear that we are now seeing more partnerships, even among competitors, to enable efficiencies and interoperability in services and offerings for customers. Thank you to Panelists: Apoorv Bhargava, CEO of WeaveGrid Jigar Shah, Head of Energy Services at Electrify America Daniel Carr, Head, Smart Cities, at Alectra GRE&T Centre Quinn Nakayama, Senior Director of Grid Research Innovation and Development at Pacific Gas and Electric Company And Panel Chairperson: Rachel Robinson, Senior Director, Sales Enablement and Client Success of WeaveGrid. And thank you Neetika Sathe, Vice President, Alectra GRE&T center for bringing folks together for this conversation. A recent interview I had with Yusuf Latief (thank you) on the battleground of Home Energy Management (HEM) in Smart Energy International's Power Playbook column. 🏡💡 What are the recent partnerships in this segment? The diverse players in the field, from OEMs to integrators to energy retailers, are fighting for market share. Who will win the ownership of the final customers? This battle is the reason for closed APIs from some players. that require partnerships to make sure they get the value. https://lnkd.in/ePeSuKc4

I've spent the last few years trying to figure out the best way to use the skills I developed founding Mixpanel to contribute to the fight against climate change. I think we've found it with Recheck. In the US we primarily have a deployment problem–we need to deploy solutions much faster than we are–and the best way to contribute with software is to solve deployment bottlenecks. After investigating many possible approaches, Garret Heaton, Chris Collins, and I have decided to focus on residential solar. There are a number of things slowing the deployment of residential solar. One of them is public perception. The vast majority of the people involved in solar are in it for the right reasons, but there are a small number of bad actors that are out there taking advantage of people–typically the most vulnerable people–with little to no accountability. This is painful for the people affected and harms the reputation of the entire industry. With Recheck, we want to help solve this problem. With the support of the Solar Energy Industries Association, we've built a coalition of some of the most influential organizations in the industry, who are all going to use Recheck to add transparency and accountability to the solar sales process with the goal of preventing future misconduct. Many thanks to our partners Dividend, Freedom Forever, GoodLeap, Mosaic, Palmetto, Sungage Financial, Sunlight Financial, and Sunrun for supporting Recheck as part of their ongoing efforts to ensure that every household that goes solar has a great experience.
It’s official! Today we launched Recheck, the first-ever verification platform to bring true accountability and transparency to the residential solar industry. Using the Recheck ID, a unique identification number, contractors, financiers, and technology platforms will be able to ensure their partners meet certification, licensing, and training requirements to help them provide the highest-quality customer experience. Together, solar and data analytics veterans Chris Collins, Garret Heaton and Tim Trefren have created the only comprehensive, industry-wide verification system. A special thank you to our partner the Solar Energy Industries Association and founding partners Dividend, Freedom Forever, GoodLeap, Mosaic (joinmosaic.com), Palmetto, Sungage Financial, Sunlight Financial, and Sunrun, who are helping to drive adoption across the majority of the US market. https://lnkd.in/eHVRinWk

Check this recent interview from my colleague George Husni talking about the competitive landscape of Home Energy Management (HEM) in Smart Energy International's Power Playbook column. In a growing global Home Energy Management system market, consolidatory moves matter. Various entities, including OEMs, integrators, and energy retailers (if and when they decide to properly engage), are battling for dominance in the market, but the question remains: Who will ultimately secure ownership of the end consumers?

The only way abundant energy can be available and affordable is through an all-of-the-above development policy. Here are the numbers. California should be setting an example of how to do it right, instead of going off the deep end with "renewables." https://lnkd.in/gW_Jm85i
