I'm helping a client hire their first Product Marketing Manager! 🎉 Here's some of the top things I'm keeping in mind: ⚡ How well does this person seem like they'll be able to manage multiple stakeholders with multiple perspectives and priorities? This is a core part of a PMM role at any organization, but it's particularly important for a single PMM at an organization that has multiple product lines or multiple audiences. ⚡Does this person have examples of doing good work in the midst of uncertainty? Uncertainty is no longer "unprecedented". It's now... Precedented? No matter what you call it, it's critical for people to be able to manage uncertainty. ⚡How well can this person influence others without having formal authority? This role doesn't have any formal leadership capacity, but they will need to influence a lot across the organization. Things like how/when/why we conduct product launches, what we're saying about the product, etc. If you're looking for a PMM role right now, I highly recommend that you prepare talking points for each of these.
