A little over two months ago, our organization experienced a loss that we will continue to mourn for years to come. While we acknowledge this news has been felt throughout the industry, it has taken a bit of time for us to support one another internally before feeling ready to share publicly. Jerry Klapak, Vice-President, Sales & Business Development Central Region, sadly passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 8, 2024. He was only 52 years old and would have celebrated his 53rd birthday this past weekend. Remembered as a true gentleman, the way he lived his life, and impacted others was profound. Jerry ran with open arms to life; he was the funniest person in any room, though usually at his own expense. He proudly served in the United States Navy at Pearl Harbor, where he earned the National Defense Service Award, Good Conduct Medal, .45 Expert Certificate and grew the technical and leadership skills he would build a successful career on. Based in our Minnesota office, Jerry was a positive force for all of those around him and we would not be the organization we are today without his impacts. We were so lucky to have Jerry within our Paladin family. Jerry’s loyalty to our team dates back more than 18 years and he will be deeply missed. He loved being of service to those around him and brought out the best in everyone. His approach to business was felt by anyone who spoke to him – authentic, generous, supportive – with a side of good humor. He was a true industry legend, and our organization will never quite be the same without him. We continue to navigate this loss while moving forward as a team to serve our clients, partners, and peers, doing our very best to make Jerry proud.
Jerry was a believer, husband, father, son, brother, friend, mentor, and true professional but to me Jerry was the guy I could laugh with and occasionally talk security. I’d known him for almost 20 years through the security industry starting when I was at Xcel. We kept in contact even after I left Xcel because we both like to laugh and we would crack each other up. One time we went to lunch at a place more fancy than we thought. We both simultaneously started doing Ralph Furley impersonations reading the menu and laughing. The waitress probably too young to know that character looked at us like we were nuts. At the local ASIS chapter meeting a few weeks ago I was struck by how weird it felt not to see him there. I truly miss him. May the good Lord bring comfort and peace to his family and friends. Soldier on Paladin crew. It’s what Jerry would have wanted.
I am so sorry to hear this. I did not know Mr. Klapak, but I can see you deeply respected and cared for him. We at Cypress lost our CEO last year, and I know what a difficult thing it is – it hits staff members at so many levels all at once. Please accept our sincere condolences and please feel free to reach out if we can help in any way.
I very much appreciate this post & I completely understand why it was delayed. I know it’s hard to put in words the dynamic role Jerry played in your business. I knew Jerry as a great leader, a mentor, a technical trend setter but mostly as a friend. I am joined by a very long list of people that are mourning his loss. My hope is that we all remember how blessed we were for the time we had with him. he was a truly unique and wonderful man. Thank you for your post!
One measure of a man is the lives he touched and influenced in positive ways in the course of his life. I am one of many who can say I'm a better person because Jerry was a friend. Lots of fun, a hard worker, a man of integrity and a man who sought to know and follow Jesus as his leader, guide and savior.
I’ve known Jerry since he started at Pro-Tec Design. One of he very best guys I have every had the pleasure to work with. He will be missed. Prayers for his family. He was loved and so are you!
Jerry was everything that is right about the security industry, he cared about those around him and he knew that relationships are everything. Conversations with my birthday brother always left me with a smile and we shared many of the same passions including being girl dads. I am a better businessman and person for knowing Jerry. Rest in peace my friend.
I was shocked to hear the news. Life is so fragile and we lost a great man when we lost Jerry. May God bless you and keep you. Also, may God be by your family’s side providing comfort and the peace only He can give.
Jerry provided some timely advice for me in a time of need. I did not know him well and his advice in the context of our familiarity with each other was exceedingly gracious and thoughtful. My prayers are with his family and friends.
Our condolences to Jerry's family, friends and Paladin colleagues. We are very sorry to hear the news.
