Trigger Warning~ PLAUSIBLE DENIABILTY~ It’s the depraved secrets we take to the grave… This is so disturbing I’m only posting because “white” folks MUST understand what people who look like us have done and CONTINUE to do. WE MUST FACE THE DEPTHS OF THE WARPED DEPRAVITY. The plausible deniability is real. It can be about anything. It can be something small. It can be something huge. No one can read your mind AND NO ONE CAN READ YOUR INTENSIONS. Are you intentionally not invited to the party? Or was it just an oversight? Did you not get the job because someone else was better qualify? Was it something else? Are the pregnant black woman’s symptoms taken seriously by the doctor? Or is her pain brushed off… she’ll be OK “her people” are used to handling this type of thing… Did the EMT give up to you soon? Or was there really no a chance for survival?

Reading this made me cry. An ex-firefighter told a Black TikToker he used to leave Black people to die in burning homes. Alion said the man told him he used to be a firefighter in the 60s and 70s which he described as a “very different time.” He then said that it was very common in those days for “firefighters who look like him” to leave people that look like Alion (ahem, Black people) in burning houses and write it off as not being able to get to them. He then recalled to Alion hearing the vivid screams of the Black people and children left in houses, cars or even stores that were set ablaze. The man said he pretended he didn’t hear them. The old former firefighter told Alion his last straw was when it came to saving a Black infant. Despite making eye contact with the Black baby, he faked as if he was going to save them and left the Black child to burn to death. Then, he quit the fire department. Since then, the man told Alion he still suffers with horrible nightmares from those instances when he purposefully left innocent Black people to die and hasn’t forgiven himself for what he’d done. For Alion, he said he was left shook by the realization that racism wasn’t just exclusive to crooked cops, lawyers or judges, but firefighters as well. Eerily enough, this comes a year after a Flint mother sued the city and fire department for the same claim: leaving her two Black boys for dead. Per The Daily Beast, two white firefighters left the boys inside a burning home and lied about clearing the room they were stuck in. Each of the white firefighters involved have since resigned from the Flint Fire Department. #racism #firefighter #blackbodies #beingblackinamerica

During my last years in the judiciary, the defense firm at which l worked represented a slumlord who owned a small apartment complex. A child had allegedly started a fire, then hid in the closet (as is typical of children in fire-scenarios)...and was eventually found, alive, but severely burned. I recall the photos of that young boy (maybe 8-10 yrs old) with 3rd degree burns on his face and body, permanently disfigured for the rest of his life...ALL BECAUSE the slumlord was too cheap to install a $.79 9-volt battery in the smoke detector he installed to "protect" his Section 8 apartments, the financially marginalized occupants didn't have money to buy! This SPECIFIC case impelled me to leave the judiciary. The pictures of that little burned up boy haunt me to this day, especially knowing my then-employer was working to prove the slumlord did nothing wrong by not ensuring his renters were safe while occupying his property! The renters were African American; the slumlord was European!

I actually wish I hadn't read this. Born in Apartheid era South Africa I have enough horror stories for a few lifetimes. I can't take any more.

That’s very disturbing. I am shocked that would still happen today. It happened in Michigan. This is not the Deep South. I honestly thought that America had changed more than this. Unbelievable !!

My dad retired from the Chicago Fire Department. His dad was one of the first Black firefighters in the same city. Definitely not my first time hearing these types of stories.

I recall this young man’s retelling popping up in another social media feed a few days back and I empathized with his feeling of betrayal. I fully understood the disillusionment which, clearly, he was new to processing. People who are propped up as heroes by others, based on their professions, are indeed also people. We are conditioned to fawn over some jobs more than others. Some represent truly exceptional ideals that are not to be dismissed. But we definitely have to observe with a critical eye anyone or any profession that is introduced to us as exalted. Why, because there are generations of people who chose exalted professions who were also raised on the myth that Black people are the other, less than human, and unworthy of an ounce of consideration. To put it simply, some were taught that the lives of black people didn’t matter at all. As such, it isn’t surprising that, regardless of the extreme credibility of some actions taken by people, who make up the majority of most professions from which we’re taught to expect the highest levels of morality and integrity, the individuals have always struggled with and against their own beliefs about religions, social standards, and what it means to be human. Then they had to choose.

The things people THINK they will take to their grave when they leave this earth will come to light. Again, what happens in the dark will come to light. Thank you for making us aware of this evil in our nation that likely still exists.

If those deaths can be verified & the firefighter is connected; why should anyone be shocked or surprised! & why should the old firefighter name be shielded?
