The Global #Assembly, #Testing and #Packaging (ATP) market is estimated to be approximately $95 billion and it is currently concentrated in #NortheastAsia. China and Taiwan alone account for ~ 60% of global capacity(including both IDMs and OSATs), while South Korea holding on to ~9% of the capacity near its existing fabs . Out of 36 ATP facilities announced between 2020-2023, 25 are projected to be in Mainland China and Taiwan due to lower construction and skilled labor costs. This pattern is likely to persist in the short term. However, long-term shifts in ATP capacity towards regions like Latin America, Europe, and emerging Southeast Asian markets are expected amid the regions' sustained policy support and incentives for foreign investment. #SoutheastAsia is already home to significant ATP activity, accounting for ~20% of total global ATP capacity. #Malaysia currently leads the region, but #Vietnam is poised for rapid growth, with Amkor recently investing in a $1.6 billion advanced packaging facility. #backendsemiconductor #chippackaging #supplychaindiversification #investments #SoutheastAsia A big thank you to Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and Semiconductor Industry Association for the comprehensive report. Singapore’s small and medium-sized enterprises (#SMEs) are part of the thriving and comprehensive #semiconductor ecosystem here. They play an important role as suppliers (of solutions, services, materials and equipment) and co-innovation partners of global chip players. Local SMEs can tap on government support, such as the enhanced Partnerships for Capability Transformation (PACT) scheme, to help them navigate challenges in transformation and improve their capabilities. ELH Additive Manufacturing and Forefront AM are among the SMEs working with larger players like STMicroelectronics and GlobalFoundries. Through collaborations with MNCs, SMEs can expand their customer base and gain access to new markets, while building specialised #manufacturing capabilities to take on more complex jobs. For MNCs, the availability of strong local suppliers with relevant technologies helps strengthen their supply chain, ensuring that there’s minimal downtime in factories. Read about how collaborations between MNCs and local enterprises are strengthening the local semiconductor ecosystem and building a more resilient supply chain. #MatchMadeInSG
