Every day at work, I'm filled with the assurance that our team will slay dragons for one another, no matter the challenge. This sense of unity was built over time, through navigating tough periods, dedicating time to "battle," as one of the team members called it, and discussing the importance of humility, transparency, and vulnerability, among other things. Building trust, understanding the different ways we give and receive information, and most importantly, how we process it, has been crucial. Having just played our annual slopitch tournament this past weekend, it made me reflect on the similarities of building teams both in sports and in companies. Tom Webster CPA, CA, ICD.D once used the analogy of building a team/department like you would build the Canucks lineup. Being a sports enthusiast, I realized how important it is to ensure you have the right mix of skills and experience to build a championship sports team as well as a high-performance team. From my perspective it's important to have the high potential rookies working closely with and learning from the wiley experienced veterans. It's important to have those with specific technical skills (i.e. the skilled player), excellent communication and soft skills, and leaders. And of course, a great coach/leader to guide the team, bring the best out of them, and help elevate their performance. When you have a diverse team who collaborate towards a common goal, you have a winning team. So what would your 'championship' team look like?

The notion of Red Bull, an energy drink synonymous with extreme sports, backing a breaking/hip-hop event, seemed far-fetched. Yet, it materialized in the most unforgettable manner, setting a new benchmark for breaking events worldwide. The event's success the following year raised the bar to new heights, surpassing any expectations within the breaking community. This experience was transformative for me, reshaping my career path entirely. Though I began my college journey as an engineering major, I quickly pivoted to marketing, driven by the events that unfolded. I launched and led an agency specializing in youth marketing with a focus on dance, which evolved into a 360 full-service marketing and advertising agency. Operating with over 20 full-time employees, I navigated both successes and challenges, learning valuable lessons about timing and the importance of valuing people along the way. Now, 23 years after that inaugural event in 2001, I find myself at the forefront of this project for Red Bull, the very project that altered the course of my life. I am tasked with the opportunity to reinvent and revive this legendary event in the most remarkable way possible. With the event looming on the horizon, my determination to maximize this project's success has never been stronger. I'm aiming to surpass the past, to recreate history. 🍀 Are you ready for the leap year to bring you good luck? 🍀 As we approach February 29th, our recent research with Front Door Communications and Lottoland has uncovered some interesting insights into luck in the UK. Surprisingly, one in five Brits consider themselves unlucky! 😱 💩 25% of people have accidentally stepped in dog poo, 🍦 24% have spilled food on their clean clothes, 🚦 22% always seem to get stuck at red lights. It seems like bad luck can strike in the most unexpected ways! Despite these unfortunate experiences, 45% of Brits don't believe that 'bad luck comes in threes'. Instead, 41% believe that individuals create their own luck, while 10% feel that they have more luck during a leap year. A spokesperson for Lottoland commented, "It's fascinating to see that the leap year is still seen as a lucky omen by many. We'll be keeping an eye out for jackpot winners this February 29th!" On average, Brits report experiencing 543 unlucky events each year.
