New Year - New Perspectives! I typically end each year talking about how important evaluations are and I typically write about setting goals for the new year, but I realized this morning that change and fresh perspectives are super important. This morning, during a medical appointment, I spoke with a nurse who was short-staffed due to holiday vacations and illnesses due to COVID-19. Despite the situation, she remained positive and focused on her patients. She shared that in the past, her “younger self” would have blamed others for her difficulties, but now she understands her work is important to her patients and she won’t remember this day’s difficulties ten years from now. Her words struck me, and I realized the value of a fresh perspective. As we begin the new work year, let's try something new. Instead of focusing on the present problems, let's consider how current challenges will impact us in ten years. What changes can we make to ensure a positive impact in the future? By taking this approach, perhaps we can improve our lives and careers in the long run. Let's embrace a new perspective and focus on our future and wiser selves. #newperspectives #newyear2024 #prioritymanagement

OF GRIT AND GROWTH — MY ONGOING JOURNEY IN HEALTH SCIENCE Welcome to another edition of Men’s Health Month! Today, I want to share with you, my personal journey of resilience as a career person in the field of health science. My story reflects the development process of a newbie rooting downward with determination, striving to bear fruits outward. And I've come to realize that true strength lies not just in the results, but in the journey itself. Entering the health science field as a novice was an immense challenge, from finding my footing, to understanding diverse concepts, and to gaining practical experiences. Starting out, I was just a rookie with big dreams and a lot to learn. I had to deal with inferiority complex oozed out from comparison. I had moments where I thought to give up and get out, but instead, I chose to man up and keep on. I settled it within me that this initial phase is all about rooting downward—building a strong foundation in knowledge and skills. So, late nights studying, conducting cutting-edge researches, crafting compelling narratives and relentless networking are my daily routines. As I progress, I've began to see the fruits of my labor. My contributions are now making a tangible impact, and my expertise is being recognized. Every achievement to me, no matter how small, feels like a significant milestone. To all my fellow men out there, especially those at the start of their career journey, I urge you to embrace your strength—not just in your muscles, but in your spirit. Life’s demands are tough, but so are we. Today, we celebrate the rugged and unwavering strength that defines us as men. Let's continue to brace ourselves up and push through the hurdles of life. Together, we can achieve greatness. I'll like to know how my story inspires you and also love to hear your add-ons. Stay tuned for tomorrow’s edition as we continue our Men’s Health Month journey towards holistic wellness. #MensHealthMonth #MensHealth #HealthiWatch

I've taken some time to reflect on the last year. It's been a year since I joined Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. It was with some trepidation that I left an organisation that I had worked for, for 17 years. I worked across different services and had worked my way up through the organisation. However, the opportunity was right for me and at the right time. The first six months were difficult, acclimatising to new working practices, integrating into a new team and a whole new environment. In the following six months, I began to find my feet and take the lead on aspects of projects. I have been supported by colleagues and managers. I have received praise and thanks from Senior Management and CEO something I had never received in the previous organisation. I feel that you get so ingrained in an organisation, that it is only when you step away you realise that things weren't all good. Did I make the right choice, for me 'Yes', Would I go back 'No' on two fronts, it's not a healthy environment, we have to move forward not back. Would I change anything 'Yes' I should have moved on earlier. Why didn't I, I knew a lot of people in different services, I knew who to speak about different aspects oy my role, I had developed good working relationships across the organisation. I tried to ensure that taxpayers money was well spent (wisely and cost effectively). I was happy to challenge the process to get best value for money. In essence I felt 'important' with a small I. That was what held me back from leaving. As outlined it's time to reflect. I don't know as much, I don't as many people across the new company, I don't have the financial responsibility. However working for Cardiff and Vale University Health Board I don't feel less 'important' (this was personal value, and something I had completely wrong). I feel valued and that is the big difference and something I should have focussed on. Looking ahead, my aim - to continue to grow personally, to work with as many people as possible to enable me to learn (and grow). To continue to reflect on what is important to me and why (challenge those thoughts/values).

🌟 Reflecting on the First Five Days Post-Career: A Journey of Discovery and Dreams 🌟 As I stepped away from my professional routine, a routine that defined my days for years, the initial sense of being 'idle' was somewhat disorienting. The sudden quiet after the storm of daily responsibilities left me feeling unexpectedly adrift. Yet, this silence brought an opportunity—a chance to dive deep into my journals and reflections that have been companions of my thoughts and ideas over the past three years. What a journey it has been! 📔✨ During this time, I've rediscovered not only the gratitude I hold for each moment spent caring for my patients but also an underlying frustration that echoed through my entries. Despite the joy and satisfaction derived from impacting individual lives, there lingered a consistent yearning—to influence broader systemic change in healthcare delivery and improve outcomes on a larger scale. 🔍 As I reflect and journal more during these days of introspection, one thing becomes increasingly clear: my commitment to healthcare is evolving. It's not just about treating patients anymore; it's about transforming the system. My dream is to shift from making a difference one patient at a time to impacting the entire fabric of healthcare delivery. As I continue on this journey of self-discovery and professional evolution, I am excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. Here's to new beginnings, to dreams that push us forward, and to the courage to pursue them. Let's reshape the future of healthcare together. 💪🏥 #CareerChange #HealthcareInnovation #Reflections #NewBeginnings

Vice President, Head of Established Products at The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson
Times of Change, Welcoming 2024! Ten…nine…eight…seven… The familiar New Year’s Eve countdown is upon us! Like many, I use this time to reflect on the past, while anticipating the future. I am proud of everything that #MyCompany has accomplished and continues to strive for in delivering innovative healthcare solutions for patients around the globe. But accomplishments don’t tell the full story in 2023. They were made against the backdrop of an ever-changing world in ways we may not have anticipated. Change can be exciting, even leading to improbable advancements, like this year’s dramatic rise in the use of AI, for example. Yet, navigating through change can be challenging, and it’s important to remember that everyone processes it differently. Reminding ourselves to be compassionate and respectful of each other is as important as ever. In times of change, I find it helps to ask, “What is my role?” Recognizing that the change is not happening to me as a passive recipient, but as an active participant who can motivate and innovate the change. And I followed that mindset this year, as #JNJ historically united its businesses under one @Johnson & Johnson. Evolving to better meet the needs of those we serve, by sharpening our focus on tackling the world’s toughest health challenges. While not always easy, gaining perspective on any change often comes from looking beyond the immediacy of today and into the longer-term meaning of the change for tomorrow. So, as we count down the end to another year, let’s lean into the change around us, embrace the humanity among us, and look ahead to a promising new year that is upon us.

Starting a new year comes, inevitably, with reflections and plans. Resolutions, goals, wishes, learnings, achievements.....😳 Even though I recognise its importance, I also feel (inevitably) pressured by the idea of resolutions. So I want to try something different and ask you: "What was the best career advice you've ever received?" I'll start: "You're not curing cancer!" This simple, yet powerful advice, has shaped my professional journey. It has taught me to: 👉 Find Balance Amid Urgency: find the balance between dedication and allowing myself the space to breathe and think creatively. It's about tackling challenges with a clear mind and a healthy dose of perspective, without falling into the trap of urgency. 👉 Embrace Enjoyment and Fulfillment: my identity isn't solely defined by my work. It encourages me to infuse every project with passion and enthusiasm, and to also remember that life is an intricate tapestry woven from many threads of experiences and interests. Here's to starting the new year embracing advice that transforms, shapes, and empowers us on the road to our aspirations. Let's see what 2024 brings - even feeling the "pressure", I'm excited for this new year with my incredible superstar team! #CareerAdvice #PerspectiveMatters
