In #Peru, PADF and our partner Veneactiva Perú proudly supported the establishment of the “Uniendo Fronteras” Entrepreneurs Network in La Libertad, Trujillo, bringing together 37 refugee, migrant, and Peruvian entrepreneurs. By working together, these entrepreneurs are now better able to attract growth opportunities with corporate partners, fostering sustainable socioeconomic development within their communities. 🌟 #PADFMigration Thanks to U.S. Department of State

Humanitarian award winner providing remote business coaching to entrepreneurs in developing countries and emerging economies. Founder and Chief Entrepreneurship Officer at EFour Enterprises.
Following on to my post earlier this week about immigrant entrepreneurs, here’s a downloadable policy guide with a different angle: entrepreneurship for migrants and refugees. To me the most creative and most needed application of entrepreneurship is in refugee camps. This document was published in 2018, and it’s even more relevant now. Here’s an excerpt from the preface: “This guide argues that entrepreneurship can be an effective way to include migrants and refugees in local economies, by sharing their knowledge and entrepreneurial spirit, and creating new market opportunities and cross-border networks. Entrepreneurship can also be part of the long-term solutions needed to address the consequences of large movements of forcibly displaced persons, in addition to the important measures that are put in place to cope with the immediate effects of humanitarian crises. The creation of economic opportunities for all, with the purpose of leaving no one behind, is among the top priorities of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. One mechanism to achieve this is thus through the promotion of entrepreneurship.” https://lnkd.in/eg5SAw-b #entrepreneurship #migrants #refugees

My field research, which discusses the entrepreneurial potential of Syrians under Temporary Protection in Turkey and the measures that need to be taken to enhance this potential, has been published by Palgrave. In this study, I conducted in-depth interviews with the directors of NGOs, human rights organizations, and relevant public institutions in Turkey that support refugee entrepreneurship. The research identifies the existing gaps in the field and discusses strategic steps to further elevate the economic contributions of refugee entrepreneurship. I hope this research on enhancing the entrepreneurial potential of Syrian refugees in Turkey will provide valuable guidance to practitioners.

REFUGEE ENTREPRENEURS 🚨 New Research Alert: Exploring Entrepreneurial Intentions Among Ukrainian Refugees and Migrants in Poland 🚨 We’ve just published a compelling new study comparing the entrepreneurial intentions of Ukrainian war refugees and pre-war economic migrants in Poland. 🔍 In response to Newman et al. (2024), who call for more quantitative and comparative studies to examine refugee entrepreneurship, our recent research offers valuable insights. 📊 Key Finding: In our analysis, gender emerged as a more significant predictor of entrepreneurial intention than migration status—whether someone is a refugee or an economic migrant. This suggests a more nuanced approach—considering intersectionality—may be necessary. #Entrepreneurship #MigrantEntrepreneurship #RefugeeEntrepreneurship #GenderEquality #Research #BusinessInnovation #Leadership A big thank you to the team. For more, look at David, A., Jolanta Maj (she/her), Dr Maciej Filipowicz, Dr. Judith Terstriep & Sabina Kubiciel - Lodzińska (2024). Much ado about refugee entrepreneurship? Professors Isilay Talay and André van Stel’s research, featured in the BlueSky Thinking round-up, focuses on refugees in Turkey, highlighting how inclusive policies can promote entrepreneurship and integration. According to the research findings, as global geopolitical tensions worsen, the influx of refugees to other countries will keep increasing, and the success of refugee entrepreneurs is expected to gain more prominence.
