"f8 and be there". This is a commonly used phrase by photographers. "f8" refers to the camera aperture for all non-photographers reading this, and it creates a sense of depth in the image ensuring that you have sufficient sharpness. You are basically not focussing on only one point and the rest of the image appears blurred. However, the part of the phrase that interests me is the "be there". The "be there" is getting out of bed an hour or two earlier to be at a location to shoot. It is an unquestionable truth, and something as an artist that I wrestle with all the time, especially on self-initiated projects. I used to get up at 4/4.30am regularly to be at a Country show ground for 6am on the dot. The reason being was that all the prep work for the animals took place between 6am and 9am. Many of my best images were taken during this 3 hour slot. Overcoming the "inner critic" that says don't bother is half the battle. 📷🌨️ Capturing the Perfect Shot: A Lesson in Patience and Persistence When heavy snowfall blankets the landscape in early spring, photographers know they have a fleeting window to capture magical moments before the snow melts. This image of a bison in the snowy Rocky Mountain Arsenal is a testament to the power of patience, experience, continuous effort, and a bit of luck. 🚗 Upon arriving at the scene, I was one of several photographers parked along the road, hoping to photograph the bison in the snow. As the bison moved across the road and into the woods, most of the other photographers left, feeling the scene wouldn't make for a good shot. But I waited. 🤔 I surveyed the surroundings, considering what elements could come together to create a stunning composition. Repositioning my car strategically, I prepared for the possibility of the bison crossing the road again, equipped with a variety of lenses to adapt to any situation. 📸 And then, it happened. I took about 150 pictures, embracing the failures as stepping stones to success. Out of those attempts, one image emerged perfectly – a reminder that knowledge, experience, patience, and effort are the keys to capturing unforgettable moments. 🙌 Keep shooting, keep growing, and never stop chasing those perfect shots! 📷💪 #photography #patience #persistence #bison #rockymountainarsenal #natureshot
