You know that the interventions that you are undertaking as part of epidemic and pandemic preparedness are sound and making impact when the abstracts that you are part of the writing team are accepted for an international scientific conference on Global health security. On behalf of Kenya Red Cross we submitted 2 abstracts to the Global Health security conference to be held in Sydney In June 2024. The abstracts are titled. ✅️ Mobilizing Community Resources for Epidemic Financing: A Case Study of Community Epidemic and Pandemic Preparedness Program (CP3) in Anthrax Outbreak Response in Narok County, Kenya (2021-2023). ✅️ Safeguarding Kenya's health security through Community based surveillance with one health approach. Protecting the Health of Vulnerable Populations in Liberia A WHO Report 2023 - What can we learn from this report, and how can it be beneficial to development planning? “Within the framework of our General Programme of Work and guided by the Country Cooperation Strategy and the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework, WHO, in partnership with other organizations, is working alongside the Liberian government to implement key healthcare priorities. These priorities include improving access to quality essential health services, achieving Universal Health Coverage by strengthening health systems and primary healthcare, promoting healthier populations through multisectoral actions, and enhancing the country’s ability to prepare for, prevent, and respond to public health threats.”

URC Chief Scientist Dennis Carroll offered this response to recent developments in the #mpox outbreak: "Days ago, the World Health Organization declared the ongoing mpox outbreak in Africa a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. Just before that, the Africa Union’s Africa CDC issued a similar public health declaration. The emergence of a new strain in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and its rapid spread to neighboring countries compels an urgent need for a coordinated international response to prevent further spread and protect global health. It’s critical that we: · Accelerate vaccine access; · Enhance surveillance; · Improve diagnostics; and · Understand the new strain through dedicated research. At URC, we stand ready to support these global efforts and ensure health security. It's time for swift, decisive action to stop the spread of mpox and protect communities worldwide."

I recently had the honor of participating in vital discussions on pandemic preparedness within the East African Community (EAC). As part of a series of country consultations, we worked closely with stakeholders from governments, civil society, community organizations, and the private sector to refine the EAC Regional Pandemic Preparedness Policy Framework (PPF). These consultations highlighted the power of collaboration in tackling public health challenges, including emerging threats like Mpox. It was inspiring to see diverse voices come together, share insights, and co-create strategies to strengthen our region's health security. Being part of these discussions reinforced my belief that preparedness isn't just about policies—it's about partnerships, innovation, and ensuring every stakeholder has a seat at the table.
