Co-Leader, Cybersecurity and Data Privacy | Cyber Policy Advisor | Co-Author, Battlefield Cyber: How China and Russia are Undermining our Democracy and National Security
While AI and advanced technology offer a pathway to greater innovation, they also open another door for malicious cyber actors to target life companies. AI is a double-edged sword. As quick as we are to adopt and gain efficiencies from these new technologies, bad actors are quicker. As a result, regulations around cybersecurity and protections for AI continue to also evolve quickly in response to these new developing technologies. The Department of Justice has also made it clear that companies will need to show that compliance programs address and mitigate risks related to the use of AI if and when breaches do arise. While AI and advanced technologies offer a breadth of opportunity in the life sciences space for innovation and acceleration, there can be resistance and hesitancy from companies or employees to embrace these tools. It’s critical to follow a digital literacy approach that exposes employees to new technologies and provides training on how to use them, how to keep them secure, and how to protect data. It’s one of the most important ways life sciences companies can successfully navigate the adoption and implementation of AI and advanced technology. At Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC, our life sciences and cybersecurity teams are on top of the ever-evolving landscape of AI, automation, and other emerging technologies. We know how it impacts companies from both an innovation and regulatory standpoint. We’re ready to help your company embrace innovation and stay compliant with all regulatory requirements while making sure your data and trade secrets are protected and secure. CEO Sentry Enterprises 🚀 Visionary trailblazer and technology futurist. Leading companies into an abundant future of possibilities.
Yesterday, I posted about a recent breach of security at a Chicago children’s hospital. Cyberattacks on hospitals are quite common, unfortunately. Their digital systems hold numerous private and sensitive information related to your digital identity and make great fodder for attackers to seek out. 🧠 With the advent of technologies such as Neura Link, Elon Musk’s new venture that successfully implanted their chip into a human brain a few weeks ago, this discussion becomes even more intriguing. The data we are able to collect about our bodies, about our health, and about our minds is rapidly becoming more and more intimate. I am all for #TechInnovation—especially when related to health and medical advancements such as Neuralink. But it is also a reminder that as tech advances, so should the security around it, too. As Neuralink’s tech, and others like it, become more and more capable of accessing and interpreting brain activity, there could be profound implications for privacy and the control of personal #DigitalIdentities. I will be interested to see how the industry ensures that this data and individuals’ rights will be safeguarded. What are your thoughts on Neuralink and “brain learning machines”? 👇

Every year since 2014, our founder and CEO, Theresa Payton ✪, has made cybersecurity predictions. Using her extensive experience in #technology and #cybersecurity from the White House to the Board Rooms of some of America's biggest companies, Theresa has offered these predictions as a way to prepare Fortalice Solutions, LLC clients for a range of cybersecurity events. Starting today, and every Friday in May, we will unveil one of her five predictions for 2025. Prediction No. 1, we are calling "Masquerade: Spies Among Us." In 1950, English mathematician, computer scientist, and philosopher, Alan Turing, the “Father of theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence,” introduced the “Turing Test” (originally called the Imitation Game). Turing designed the test to measure a machine’s ability to exhibit intelligent behavior equivalent to, or indistinguishable from, that of a human. Some 75 years after Professor Turing unveiled his revolutionary test, Theresa speculates that AI algorithms engineered by rogue nation-states will use generative #AI and #Deepfakes to create fake personas that can pass the #TuringTest. The nation-states will leverage the technology to create images of natural persons and AI-generated virtual assistants who can unsuspectingly carry out nuanced conversations with regular humans. These human-like digital assistants will be ubiquitous, popping up everywhere from workplace video meetings to social media, dating, and gaming platforms. Ultimately, these nation-states will look to harness this technology to build and gain trust enabling them to commit political and economic espionage acts. #ArtificialIntelligence Agree? Disagree? Sound off in the comments. Let's start a conversation! Want more? For a copy of Theresa's full "Predicting the Future of Cybersecurity, Volume II" White Paper, which includes all of her predictions from the last decade (and her team's evaluation of those predictions), email us at watchmen@fortalicesolutions.com.
