The city of City of Rancho Palos Verdes Verdes, CA, is enhancing wildfire detection and response with AI technology. Pano AI and the city of RPV officially marked the launch of four stations utilizing our high-definition cameras for a 360-degree view of the entire Palos Verdes Peninsula and #AI to detect the earliest signs of smoke. Our system alerts first responders within minutes of detection, ensuring that both firefighters and municipal leaders can act swiftly to protect communities. A special thank you to RPV Mayor John Cruikshank, PE, F.ASCE and California Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi for bringing Pano’s technology to your communities. We also want to thank Assistant Fire Chief Brian Kane and the Los Angeles County Fire Department for your hard work and dedication to keeping these communities safe. Also, thank you SpectrumOne for a great segment about the launch! “We’ve got one Earth. If we’re not careful, it could be the scorched Earth,” Chief Kim Zagaris noted as he moderated this year’s 2024 Wildfire Technology Management Summit. We had some key takeaways related to #firetech as it’s being used now, and what’s coming: 🚒 Chief Marshall Cal OES: Discussed the Fire Asset Status Tracker (FAST) mobile app that will allow local fire agencies to provide real-time resource status updates and track statewide all-hazard fire resources, among other capabilities. 🔥 Chief Tyler California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE): Cameras integrated with AI are now detecting new ignitions before 911 calls even come in. The rapid improvement of the fire alert system as the ALERTCalifornia system has been integrated into the fire alert system, “changed my impression of everything.” 🚁 Director Benjamin Miller Colorado Center of Excellence for Advanced Aerial Firefighting: They’re creating one of the first Public Aircraft Operations in the UAS space, a regulatory framework that would enable large UAS to support firefighters and other first responders in Colorado. 🌲 Several speakers, including Angela Coleman, Associate Chief of the USDA Forest Service, and Jeff Marsolais, also of the USFS, spoke to the increasing ferocity of climate-change driven fire behavior and the corresponding importance of integrating new technologies, referring to improvements now as a ‘downpayment’ on what’s needed for the fires of the future. It’s encouraging to hear that the rapid pace of software development has a growing place in the wildfire arena. And, it’s exciting to see how technology is already being used today to support fire agencies across the nation—folks on the ground and in the air. Thanks so much to our hosts IDGA and Western Fire Chiefs Association. The Wildfire Technology Management Summit is one of the conferences we look forward to year after year. And thanks for posting this great interview with Director Miller ahead of the conference, which others may find here: https://lnkd.in/gr2URXuW (quote from interview below). #wildfire #climate #technology #autonomy

A landslide has taken out part of Highway 22 over Teton Pass, causing a 90-mile detour to get between Wyoming’s Jackson Hole valley and Teton Valley in Idaho while crews fix the road. For navigation maps to be reliable, they need to be updated with major traffic closures like this in a timely fashion. If a driver isn’t aware of a nearly 2-hour rerouting like the one around Teton Pass, it can be a safety or delivery issue and pose a threat to emergency services. Our high-resolution satellite imagery can help mapmakers monitor change on a global scale to keep their maps and customers updated with the latest conditions.
