Mirror, mirror on the wall, let's ponder on the changes we install. In the reflection of our actions, may we find the seeds of positive transformation. Small steps by each of us can collectively create significant change. Embrace eco-friendly practices such as reducing energy consumption, recycling, and choosing sustainable products. By making mindful choices in our daily lives, we contribute to a healthier and more sustainable Beyond individual actions, we can actively engage in our communities. Supporting local businesses helps stimulate the local economy and fosters a sense of community. Volunteering our time and skills allows us to directly address the needs of those around us, creating a positive impact on a personal level. Initiate and participate in conversations about social issues. Use your platforms, both online and offline, to share information, resources, and perspectives. By fostering open dialogue, we contribute to a more informed and empathetic society, where diverse voices are heard and respected.

In anticipation of the release of our paper, I sat down with Dominic Thurbon to reflect on this work, why it excites us and why we think this so important. After a long chat, we landed on… “Companies are either going to be the cause of, or the solution to, society’s problems. The difference between those is a difference in strategic decision making. Our work is about moving the pendulum towards being the ‘solution’ rather than the ‘cause’ by making high quality strategic decisions.” The EY Community Impact team’s latest thought leadership on social impact and corporate community investment, ‘Let’s Talk about ‘S’ Baby’, is an organisation’s guide to becoming that ‘solution’ by making sustainable, impactful investments in the areas and issues they most care about. At a time when society is looking at companies to do and be better, we offer our perspective on how this can be achieved through more impactful, aligned community investment. For those who want a snapshot, here are my three takeaways: 1. Decide as an organisation what stories of impact you want to tell your people and the public.  2. Develop a strategic aspiration that is deliberate and aligned to the purpose and strategy of the business. 3. Lead execution of social impact and community investment initiatives that are of high quality, and measure and report on the impact.
