👀There are some brands in the market who look like tequila, but they are not…
I was with a tequila expert, doing some benchmarking, and at first sight, he didn't realize the bottle wasn't actually tequila. Note that he's involved in the industry, and now imagine an average tequila customer; the labelling was very misleading advertising.
The tequila bottle label main word was Tequilana Weber, 100% agave (very tricky). No tequila word anywhere, nor, NOM or CRT specifications.
It's highly important, that customers, especially in emergent markets, know what they are consuming.
This is a call for the tequila industry to raise awareness, about what is, and what's not tequila. Make campaigns about Appellation of Origin, all the regulations, production process, etc. All the cost and effort the industry incurs, to maintain that prestige in the world, cannot be let to confuse with tequil-a-like products.
Tequila brands: be careful with your market share, those products may be a sprout now, but later they can significantly discredit tequila, with their lacking quality and confusion.
At the end, the most important in the whole value chain, is the final consumer. If they stop buying premium brands, in favor of (cheaper) less quality tequil-a-like products, it will not only affect sales, but tequila prestige in general.
What are your thoughts about this?
