This Sunday at 8pm local time, around 330 riders will get on their bikes, do a single lap around the velodrome at Roubaix, the renowned finish line of the Paris-Roubaix one-day classic and head off into a darkening sky, at the start of a gruelling bike race to Istanbul. The Tenth Edition of the Transcontinental Race (TCR) is about to begin. Like many other “dotwatchers”, it will occupy my thoughts for the next few weeks. It's an event that captivates many due to its sheer scale and the indomitable spirit it represents. It is a fully self-supported race, where riders have to meticulously plan their own route, carry all their own equipment and ride further than the Tour De France does, but in only two weeks. It's a test of endurance, resilience, and self-reliance, appealing to a wide range of participants—from those aiming for victory, to those seeking to achieve a personal best, to those simply yearning for an unparalleled adventure. Many will eschew a warm bed for night and will sleep wherever they can find, a bus-stop, a park bench or even in a hedge. The spirit of the Transcontinental Race is maintained by the Lost Dot team, whose organisation and management of the event are truly inspiring. Having been a competitor in a previous edition, I can attest to the mix of excitement and uncertainty that comes with standing on that start line, looking forward to nearly 4000 kilometres of unknown challenges ahead. The journey taught me much about my own capabilities and the remarkable support I had from those following me on-line, many of whom I only discovered were cheering me on after the race. For those intrigued by this extraordinary event and eager to follow along, the pre-race report offers a glimpse into the scale and complexity of the challenge. Watching these dedicated individuals race across continents can be both fascinating and inspiring, providing a window into the endurance and determination of the human spirit. So, if you want to drop into an obsession and cheer on these incredible people for the next few weeks, here is a link to that pre-race report that will give you some idea of the scale and complexity of the challenge. https://lnkd.in/ePnTDkJy And that’s a picture of me, high up in the Alps.

Another product launch done well. Today was the launch of Pinarello's updated Dogma F frame. Here is what I liked I knew beforehand, not every detail but I knew it was coming. I had the option to purchase a bike for the launch date. In this case, I didn't take advantage of it, but it was a welcome option that, with slightly different circumstances, I would have opted in. The launch to dealers was done in a common format now: a video conference. The story of the bike was told from the perspective of team Ineros riders. This makes perfect sense for riders who want tip-top performance or to emulate current top riders. This is who they will listen to current active professional riders. High-quality visual assets are available at launch to dealers to market to their customers. This is often missed by many brands. There is a solid selection of stills and videos to pre-sell the bikes to riders who want them. Pinarello's own site is fully updated as well. Media reviews were also made public at launch time. In my opinion, a bigger splash could have been made, but still, the bike is featured on the front page of the sites that get the most eyes. Three weeks ago, there were images of bikes on the team car, so savvy riders were clued in to this. I'll be looking forward to pedaling some miles on one.
The new DOGMA F is here. Designed thanks to the insights from the INEOS Grenadiers’ performance team, that measured Geraint Thomas's 2022 Tour de France performance data, this new model represents the importance of aerodynamic efficiency in cycling. In Grand Tours, just like with our daily rides, it’s not always an uphill time trial. We’re constantly riding on varied terrain. Examined objectively, aerodynamic gains are worth more than weight savings, and that’s why, with the new DOGMA F, we didn’t focus solely on saving weight. Yes, the new model is 108g lighter than the previous edition but our primary concern was to reduce the bike’s CdA (coefficient of aerodynamic drag) by 0.2%. "We are the fastest in the world, always. When we decide to take to the track, we do it to win. This then translates into data, information, intuitions that we feed into the DOGMA." - Fausto Pinarello Discover the new DOGMA F now: https://lnkd.in/d2ggX_Gf

Tour de France The Tour de France is an annual men's multiple-stage bicycle race primarily held in France while also occasionally passing through nearby countries. The race was first organized in 1903 to increase sales for the newspaper L'Auto, and it has been held annually except during the World Wars. The Tour de France typically covers approximately 3,500 kilometers (about 2,200 miles) over 21 stages during three weeks. Key Elements of the Tour de France: 1. Stages: The race consists of various types of stages, including flat, mountainous, and time trials. Each stage varies in length and difficulty. 2. Jerseys: - Yellow Jersey (Maillot Jaune): Worn by the overall time leader. - Green Jersey (Maillot Vert): Worn by the points leader, often a sprinter. - Polka Dot Jersey (Maillot à Pois Rouges): Worn by the best climber. - White Jersey (Maillot Blanc): Worn by the best young rider (under 26). 3. Teams: Cyclists compete in teams, each consisting of 8 riders, working together to achieve various goals such as stage wins, overall wins, or point classifications. 4. Route: The route changes every year but typically includes a mix of flat stages, mountainous stages in the Alps and Pyrenees, and individual time trials. 5. Historical Winners: Notable winners include Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault, Miguel Indurain, and more recently, Chris Froome and Tadej Pogačar. 6. Public and Media: The race is a major sporting event in France and worldwide, attracting millions of spectators along the route and a large international television audience.

With three IMOCA Globe Series races remaining before the Vendée Globe, all eyes turn to Lorient for the start of The Transat CIC. With the margins shrinking as the boats get faster, squeezing every ounce of performance power out of equipment is vital for the teams and their skippers, who turn to a range of cutting-edge innovations to get a competitive edge. Over a 3,500 mile race like this, it is vital to fully exploit performance and speed when the going is good, and with the ability to hit optimal settings as quickly and consistently as possible, teams can eat up the distance, chasing down their rivals or opening up big gaps ahead of their competition. The majority have turned to wireless load sensors from Cyclops to lend a helping hand: https://lnkd.in/ebx3WhZv #SmartSailing .... #TheTransatCIC Class40 association #IMOCA #sailing #boat #sailingboat #yacht #yachting #sailinglife #offshoresailing #VendéeGlobe
