Suicide is the biggest killer of under 35's in the UK. To lose a young person to suicide is a tragic and preventable loss, and to many, it is their only option. Huge funding cuts across mental health, education, and community groups, mean young people and their needs are being forgotten. Charities like PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide and their services are needed now more than ever, to save the lives of young people in crisis. Recently, they've had calls from children as young as 7 years old who need help. Their HopeLine247 runs all day, every day over the phone, web services, text, and accommodates BSL and interpreter services. Trained professionals are available every hour of the day, for young people's darkest moments. They set up safety plans, offer a friendly voice and if necessary can intervene and send help in crises. They also support those worried about someone and blue light workers who need an outlet for the difficult crises they attend. The HopeLine's nighttime service is now in peril, and Papyrus urgently needs donations to keep it open through the darkest hours. They currently receive 12,000 calls a year at night, and on average have 32 life-saving interactions each evening. This service is desperately needed to keep hope alive, and young people safe. If you're able please donate or share. If you're a business please consider partnering with them. They offer amazing training too which could help you recognise the signs and support a child, friend, family member, or colleague who is suffering. https://lnkd.in/exTWJaPt

For the first time in our 28-year history, PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide is launching an emergency appeal to keep HOPELINE247 running through the night. Without urgent support, we may be forced to make the devastating decision to cut back our services. Every three minutes, a distressed young person contacts HOPELINE247, our suicide prevention helpline. These calls, texts, and messages come during their darkest hours—often in the middle of the night, when other services aren’t available to them. Since extending HOPELINE247 to a 24/7 service last year, demand has surged. In 2024 alone, we had 12,000 life-saving interactions during the night and saw a 66% increase in the number of young people seeking help through our webchat service. These numbers tell us how vital our work is, but rising costs and a sharp decline in donations across the charity sector have brought us to a critical moment. Right now, someone is on the phone contacting one of our professional advisers. Your donations to our emergency appeal will directly fund HOPELINE247, ensuring we can answer calls, texts, and messages from a young person seeking hope, no matter what time it is. Together, we can ensure that no young person feels alone with thoughts of suicide. Please, give what you can and help us continue to be here for life. If you know of people who could support us, please direct them to our page. Thank you for helping us save lives. https://lnkd.in/eWAd5BMe #HOPE #SuicidePrevention #SaveLives

Please support this very important life-saving service that is very personal to me and my family. Donations are desperately needed to save lives of children and youths. It is so important that these kids have someone to reach out to 24/7 in their darkest hour, whilst having thoughts of suicide. Thanks Papyrus for the wonderful work. To help you decide how important this cause is, here are some shocking statistics: - Suicide is the MAIN CAUSE OF DEATH in young people under the age of 35 in the UK. - In 2022, 1,796 young people under the age of 35 took their own lives in the UK. - Around three-quarters of them were boys or young men. - On average, around five young people take their lives each day. - Over 200 teenagers are lost to suicide every year. - Research shows that with appropriate early intervention and support, suicide by young people can be prevented. Thank you for your kind support.

Over the Christmas holidays, Alina Wardzala and her 70-year-old father were brutally murdered by her husband, leaving behind three young children in the care of their grandmother. This unimaginable loss has left a family devastated and children in urgent need of support. Marcie and I donated this morning to help provide for these children during this tough time. I encourage you to join us in supporting their care through the GoFundMe campaign. Every contribution makes a difference – and if you've already donated to the children, please consider supporting one of many domestic violence shelters and support organizations in Calgary or your community. Donate here: https://lnkd.in/gs7hc7ZQ This tragedy is also a stark reminder of the pervasive and devastating impact of domestic violence. It is an epidemic that continues to claim lives, shatter families, and leave deep scars on survivors. As men, we have a responsibility to confront and dismantle the cultural and societal norms that enable domestic violence. This means holding ourselves and others accountable, promoting healthy relationships, and advocating for change. Policymakers also need to take this issue far more seriously. Strengthening support for survivors, increasing funding for prevention programs, and ensuring law enforcement and the justice system respond appropriately are critical steps to making a meaningful impact. (current restraining orders are an absolute joke and provide no protection to those trying to escape abusers) We owe it to families like Alina's to act urgently and compassionately. If you can, please consider donating and sharing the GoFundMe link. Together, we can support the Wardzala children and work toward meaningful change to prevent domestic violence in all its forms.

No child should have to flee their home to escape family violence, but there was no other option for five-year-old Adam and his little brother Zayne. When the violence went from bad to worse, their mum knew that the only way for them to be safe was to leave. But escaping their violent home was just the beginning of the story. The consequences of exposure to family violence can have a lasting impact on the development and wellbeing of children. WAGEC’s Helping Children Heal program seeks to mitigate the harm caused by family violence by meeting the developmental, emotional and social needs of children in refuge and outreach. Adam and Zayne’s story is not an uncommon, but it's one with an ending you have the power to change if you act now. Demand for WAGEC’s services is growing, and we have no choice but to turn some people away. With your support, WAGEC can continue to help children like them heal and recover from family violence. Donate now to build a brighter future for children like Adam and Zayne. Donate here: bit.ly/3Rf5dVc

Make tax time effective and helpful
Everyone deserves to feel safe from family or domestic violence. Each year, we respond to 150,000 calls for help and provide over 35,000 bed nights in secure accommodation for people who are not safe at home. One of these calls came from victim-survivor Emma, who needed help escaping her abusive husband. She connected with us via webchat, and our Family Violence Specialist supported her in creating a safety plan and leaving. As the financial year draws to a close, we ask you to consider helping us to continue providing and expanding our 24/7 crisis line and accommodation services. Your support allows us to better assist Victorians experiencing family or domestic violence—tonight and every night. With your tax-deductible donation, you can ensure that anyone experiencing family or domestic violence, just like Emma, has someone to call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This morning as I sit and wait for my youngest to finish her ballet class I’ve been reflecting on the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, a global campaign running from November 25th, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, to December 10th, Human Rights Day. This campaign highlights the ongoing crisis of violence against women and girls, one of the most widespread and under-reported human rights violations in the world. As a mother of three young children—two girls and a boy—I often think about the kind of world I want to raise them in. I want my daughters to feel safe and empowered, and I want my son to understand the importance of respect, allyship, and speaking out against inequality. But the statistics are a stark reminder of the work still to be done: in the UK, a woman is killed by a man every three days, and globally, one in three women will experience violence in her lifetime. Organisations like UN Women UK, Women's Aid Federation of England and Women for Women International are doing incredible work to support survivors, advocate for systemic change, and build safer communities. One simple but powerful action we can take right now is to sign the Safe Spaces Now pledge with UN Women UK: https://lnkd.in/eXD66cpJ This campaign calls for safer public spaces where women and girls can live free from fear and harassment. By signing, you add your voice to a growing movement pushing for tangible change. The 16 days campaign is an important reminder that we should be working every day to create a future where women and girls are safe, valued, and free to thrive. Change starts with us. #16DaysOfActivism #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #SafeSpacesNow #ActNow
The domestic abuse emergency impacts the lives of countless women and children across the country. We recognise children as survivors in their own right and work to protect them too. Every donation to Women's Aid helps us support survivors. Let’s make a difference together #16Days Donate here: https://lnkd.in/e2RvNBZc
