Tool utilization by LLMs is crucial as it elevates their function from mere text generation to complex task performance. This capability allows LLMs to access and process current information, interact with dynamic environments, and offer more precise, contextually appropriate responses. Examples of tool usage could be: building a PPT presentation, sending an Email, browsing Airbnb to find properties etc. This paper (https://lnkd.in/eSxNHwvh) introduces T-Eval, a framework for evaluating LLMs tool utilization capabilities. T-Eval methodically measures a model's performance across various subprocesses, including planning, reasoning, retrieval, understanding, and review. The authors asses various LLMs using tasks like code execution, internet browsing, and data manipulation within these subprocesses to rigorously assess LLMs' tool utilization efficiency. The authors find that GPT-4 Turbo excels in tool utilization compared to other models, showing a markedly improved performance. Nonetheless, they identify shortcomings in GPT-4 Turbo's capabilities, particularly in its ability to effectively identify and utilize external tools, as well as in refining its responses based on retrieved information. The authors notably do not examine LLMs specifically tailored for tool utilization tasks, such as ToolLLM (see here: https://lnkd.in/en5bkdze), which claims superior performance over GPT-4 in these areas. It would be interesting to see how these specialized models fare under the T-Eval framework.

#SageTransform is underway in Las Vegas where Intacct partners and clients engage with the latest innovations for the platform. Most notable are the various AI applications and processes supported by Sage CoPilot. CoPilot will simplify administrative tasks such as generating reminders, writing emails, analyzing emails, and so on. Removing tedious tasks from the Accounting teams plate. Of particular interest is "Continuous Close" and "Continuous Audit" which aim to relieve the burden of month close by syncing and reconciling more frequently. CTO Aaron Harris gave an illustrative lesson in just how long it's been a pain point using an old Latin phrase which I found quite entertaining. Given the wave Generative AI is making at the moment, Sage CoPilot also includes access to Large Language Models for major advancements in identifying and processing fuzzy data, taking OCR to a new level for invoice automation. There's way too much information to summarize here, and my purpose is merely to further accentuate what we all know... AI is moving quickly. Faster than we can...
