Our in-house psychiatrist, colleague and long-time friend of Paracelsus Recovery recently spoke to Tobias Marti and Giorgio Scherrer of Neue Zürcher Zeitung about his work for non-profit harm reduction organisations in Zurich. Dr. Thilo Beck is a pioneer in Zurich's drug policy and emphasises the urgent need for protected spaces where marginalised individuals can safely consume substances. Beck advocates for a controlled, limited legalisation approach to drug consumption in specialised locations, stressing that repressive measures only exacerbate the risks. At Paracelsus Recovery, we adopt a harm-reductionist approach to substance abuse and believe Thilo's points could not be more critical. Today, on #WorldMentalHealthDay, it’s more important than ever to address the growing mental health crisis affecting workplaces worldwide. We are living in a time characterised by uncertainty, which is having a profound impact on employee mental health. Excessive workplace stress is responsible for over 120,000 deaths each year and, as our CEO, Jan Gerber, recently told Hadeer Elhadary of ESG Mena Arabic, these issues are “exacerbated by global challenges such as wars, pandemics, and cost-of-living crises.” Many employees are struggling with feelings of isolation, cognitive overload, chronic stress, imbalanced work-life dynamics, and the persistent belief that they are not doing enough, earning enough, or performing to a high enough standard. As Jan emphasises, it is more important than ever for leaders and employers to create “positive work environments where employees feel supported, seen, and safe.” How can this be achieved? According to Jan, we need to prioritise psychological safety and empathetic leadership. Discover what these concepts mean, and how you can start implementing them in your workplace today: https://lnkd.in/didhv34j Let’s make this World Mental Health Day count 🙏

Codependency can make decision-making a daunting task. When we constantly seek approval from others and prioritise their needs over our own, it becomes difficult to trust our own judgement and make choices that are truly in our best interests. Codependents may fear being alone or rejected, leading them to avoid making decisions that could upset or disappoint others. They often feel the need to please others, even at their own expense. This can make it hard to prioritise their own needs and make decisions that are truly fulfilling. Breaking free from codependency requires self-awareness, self-compassion and a commitment to personal growth.
