I Make the Words Flow. Narrative Storyteller: Writer. Speaker. Humorist. Breaking things down, one Black narrative at a time.
THE BLACK PERSON’S GUIDE TO WATCHING ENGLAND PLAY FOOTBALL THIS WEEK. Remember, it’s just a game. Your non-Black friends aren’t racist. They’re just upset when England lose and need to blame someone who just happens to share your reflection. It’s nothing personal. You should be grateful they allowed any Black players to represent their country. Because it’s technically ‘not their country’. So, pipe down, swig a pint of lager and get into the spirit of things. Remember to breathe if it comes down to a penalty shootout again. Be prepared to switch off your television immediately if England fail to win. Lock your doors and windows. Do not play any reggae, soul, R&B or hip-hop for at least a month afterwards. Keep your head down if you go out. Don’t mention the football. Don’t ‘look’ Black. Definitely don’t buy any plantain. If England end up winning the entire tournament, do not talk about the significant contribution of the Black players. Now is not the time to bring up race. The country is unified under a white captain and white manager. Not everything is about race. Get over yourself. And it’s okay to hug your white neighbours who voted for The Reform Party in last week’s general election. Water under the bridge. England won. Let the borders close in celebration. Hand them a patty and a red stripe. Share the victory. But if England don’t win the tournament – please seek legal advice before going abroad on holiday. Obtain written confirmation that your Black ass will be allowed back in the country with your valid British passport. Yu can’t seh mi nevah warn yu. Yu can’t seh yu nevah know…… #blackbypopulardemand #sticktofootball #therestisfootball #euros #kickitout

New Zealand’s public sector boards are made up of more than 500 directorships, with professional #board #directors, former public servants, former politicians, business people, and community representatives according to Stuff's The Post in their series 'Board Games: Who’s Winning at Public Sector Monopoly?' The series is considering all #governance boards and commissions (noting these are closer to executive roles, than non-executive directors), and excluding boards of higher education and schools. These directors collectively receive more than $18 million a year in fees and disbursements, although the articles also mention that the roles are paid less than the market for commercial or listed organizations. Although roles and profiles of board members can already be found on individual government websites, it will be interesting to see the scope and variety of the roles comparatively, and the assumptions that The Post draws from them. It would be valuable to see explainers of how Minister's appoint and monitor these roles, how they drive performance to organizations through 'letters of expectations', as this seems to be something poorly understood and explained in media articles where issues arise. It would also be interesting to see consideration of if and how boards can be best staffed, to meet the public service neutrality codes, where appointing former politicians, advocates, or business people who may have made and hold strong stands in previous roles. How can we see the best performance, while retaining transparency and the trust of the public, while not excluding potentially impactful directors.
