Time to share my #TED2024 Insights! I couldn’t be more grateful for the trust and invitation sent by Simone Ross to discover TED in Vancouver, a truly Transformative Experience, actually in 3 Dimensions for me: as a first-time attendee, as a Discovery Session moderator, and as part of a flash-mob during a TED talk by Lear deBessonet and Brian Stokes Mitchell! Speaking as an attendee today (more about my session with Anil Seth, Nita Farahany and Conor Russomanno on #neuroscience #bmi #bci #ethics tomorrow): what a community feeling! Actual & past speakers, newbies, long-time TEDsters, sponsors & donors, patrons & supporters give a tangible feeling of belonging. There were quite a few optimistic talks on the future promised by #AI, from Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis, investor Vinod Khosla and visionary legend Ray Kurzweil. Mustafa Suleyman, Microsoft AI CEO, announced the dawn of a "Digital Species", but Avi Loeb challenged this: there is no such species, as AI is just the mirror of ourselves. IT IS US. Hartmut Neven, the founder of Google #Quantum AI, predicts that AI will help us understand consciousness, as we'll live in a conscious universe with different levels of awareness. (Anil Seth I am curious about your take on this?) Former OpenAI director Helen Toner critically said that "Left to their own #devices, AI companies might go in a similar direction as #socialmedia companies”, and she encouraged us to be brave, brilliant ;) and not to be “intimidated by the #technology or the people building it. You don't have to be a scientist or engineer to have a voice”. And you won’t need to be either while using these ear devices: DeepTech inventor and iyo CEO jason rugolo launched the world’s first #audiocomputer (which is NOT voice command) as a #cyborg, opening a virtual auditory space with internet access, trained on humans, able to engage in a real conversation right into your ear, enhance certain sound layers, transcript, translate, or even create virtual landscapes. Like a digital whisperer. This has certainly a bright future when the ethical challenges have been properly addressed. Talking about which… Pau Garcia, based on the assumptions that memories are the architects of our identities (I can relate to this after the fantastic Discovery Session by Gil Winch and Guy Winch about self-defining memories), help transform memories into images to find the emotional truth through #synthetic memories to reconstruct a past that had been hidden. Also deeply imprinted in my memory are the absolutely brave and brilliant talks: Sonia Vallabh <3 Nila Ibrahimi <3 (MOVED to tears!) Isaac Saul, Rory Stewart, and the wonderful Elle Cordova, Willie Williams and Niceaunties. I will finish with the performance talk of supersonic Felipe Sánchez Luna, intertwining #Creativity and #Technology to connect deeper to our #humanity. That’s the transformative power of #sound and its contribution to a new emotional understanding of our world. Wow!

It's #AI Week in Chicago! Xiaochen Z., Gilbert Villegas, Kristi Dula-Ferguson, Dinis Guarda, Eva Szalkai Csaky, and I had a great panel discussion today about Leveraging AI for Regional Economic Growth. So many great points were made, too bad we ran out of time. Some key takeaways are: ✅ Governments need to develop pro-growth policies to attract business and talent ✅ #Community is at the heart of any ecosystem. Having all the right people at the table will help ensure success. ✅ #Illinois is open for business ✅ In-person events like Chicago AI Week act as an opportunity to share ideas and build excitement Thanks to Xiaochen for organizing an important event and 1871 for hosting!
