Professor Celia Oreja-Guevara delivered a talk on how Smoldering disease in #MultipleSclerosis underscores the need to view the disease as a continuum involving chronic inflammation, slow progression, and relapses. Understanding these interconnected manifestations can lead to more effective treatment strategies, aiming to minimize long-term disability and improve the quality of life for individuals with MS. This #webinar was presented at the first International Neuroimmunology Conference INIC in Saudi Arabia. The theme for the International Men’s Health Week 2024 is “Men's Health Checks” 5 diseases account for the majority of male deaths across the world. These are heart disease, cancer, stroke, lung disease and diabetes. Some of these are preventable through a healthy lifestyle; many others can be treated, controlled or cured when diagnosed in time. And this is why annual check-ups are important. A comprehensive annual check-up should ideally include the following: 1. Medical history 2. Testing Vital Signs 3. Complete Blood Profile Test 4. Heart exam 5. Lung exam 6. Abdominal exam 7. Neurological exam 8. World Sickle Cell Day Our red blood cells are normally round and flexible, allowing them to travel freely through blood arteries, but with sickle cell disease, some of the cells become crescent moon-shaped and adhere to blood vessels. As a result, blood flow through blood vessels slows or stops, causing discomfort, organ damage, and possibly even a stroke. Symptoms of sickle cell disease can vary in severity and often necessitate hospitalization. According to the American Society of Hematology, common symptoms include: • Anemia • Dark urine • Jaundice (yellowing of the eyes) • Painful swelling in hands and feet • Chronic pain • Delayed growth • Stroke The only possible cure for the disorder is a bone marrow transplant. However, even this treatment is only possible for a limited number of affected individuals who have a suitable donor. A healthy diet can help & Practicing healthy habits like drinking 8 glasses of water per day can help. #sicklecell #sicklecellawareness #worldsicklecellday

Today, on Rare Disease Day, I join millions around the world in raising awareness for the countless individuals living with rare diseases, including myself. Diagnosed with cystic fibrosis (CF) at the age of five, I have navigated the challenges and triumphs of living with a genetic disorder on a daily basis. Living with CF demands resilience, perseverance, and a positive outlook, despite its unpredictability. Today I am grateful that the narrative of cystic fibrosis is changing, thanks to relentless advancements in research and treatment. In recent years, groundbreaking therapies have been developed that target the underlying cause of CF rather than just its symptoms. These treatments have significantly improved the quality of life and life expectancy for many CF patients, offering hope where there was once despair. On this Rare Disease Day, let's celebrate the progress we've made while continuing to advocate for increased research funding, better access to care, and greater understanding of all rare diseases. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of millions. #RareDiseaseDay #CysticFibrosis #ResearchMatters #HopeForTheFuture https://lnkd.in/gK9hbQdk
