I recently came across a discussion on X that made me pause and think—are some design choices really up for debate?
Take the color red, for example. In UX/UI design, red is a well-established design convention, often associated with actions like logging out, deleting, or stopping. A design convention is a widely recognized standard or pattern that users have come to expect. It makes interfaces more intuitive and helps users navigate with ease because they know what to expect.
But what happens when we challenge these conventions? While innovation is key in design, some conventions serve a crucial role in maintaining usability. Changing a well-known convention, like the color red for logout, could lead to confusion and disrupt the user experience.
What’s your take? Should we stick to these conventions, or is there room for change?
