One of the most amazing things about being able to be a part of this cultural phenomenon that we call Yellowstone is the fanfare. We have the absolute most loyal fans who are completely dedicated. Yellowstone being such a cultural hit it it's incredibly flattering to be part of something that impacts so many people. I feel blessed to have been on it and it's just, it's amazing waking up knowing that you are participating in something that means so much to so many people. I am so glad that Yellowstone has resonated with people. And the way that it has, and I think that the greatest gift to that is getting to see the story all the way through. I've loved the show since I first read the very first episode 7 years ago and it's an amazing, amazing gift. Culturally, we have resonated from the East Coast to the West Coast, in the north and the South and everywhere in between all around the world. So getting to be a part of such an amazing show is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Something from the most recent #TheBundle episode: 📝 Once poison-pill clauses related to mininum credit ratings or escrow deposits (which #Amazon both did in its agreed-upon contract with the #NBA) are deemed material to a media rights agreement, it might be fair to say that “last match rights” aren’t worth the paper they are written on. On the other hand, rights-owning organization are certainly free to seek and accept such terms if consistent with its legitimate business interests — however onerous they might be. Some purpose for LMR may remain, though, such as market price discovery. 🚨 In related news: S&P Global revises its outlook for Warner Bros. Discovery to negative, from stable, while affirming its ‘BBB’ credit rating — I guess managing the risk of credit/payment default is in the legitimate business interest of the NBA (or any other rights owner). 🏀 From sports business to sports arena: It’s like NBA teams front-load restricted free agency offers to exploit financial restrictions (salary cap) of the incumbent team — making it hard(er) to match exact terms. 🎧 On the Unofficial Partner podcast: “Last matching rights” and “exclusive negotiation periods” clauses are having what COVID was for “force majeure events” — expect less room for interpretation in future high-stake media rights agreements. 📺 Murray Barnett on another poison-pill dimension: the definition of television 👇🏼

This episode of #TheTown explores the profoundly shifting financials of (mostly) scripted content in legacy media. As always, Matthew Belloni breaks it down with precision, with his guest John Mass from Content Partners. Notably for my unscripted colleagues, John mentions how valuable certain unscripted assets can be in the modern FAST/AVOD ecosystem. Take a listen for it (True Crime, low budget, high volume)… As an unscripted guy straddling legacy and social, I would love a deeper dive into financials in the category of unscripted content. While I don’t forsee us ever getting back to the amazing Terms of Trade negotiated in the UK in the 90s by my former boss David Frank at RDF, all of this disruption makes way for lucrative deal making nonetheless. Matt, maybe that’s for a future episode? And while you’re at it, I would love your exploration of the current and projected value of content being generated within the Creator Economy (currently valued around $250B but projected to double by 2026). Surely, these low-cost, high volume content libraries will grow exponentially in value, especially with favorable exclusivity.
