Considering life before injury/disability with exercise programming. Factoring in an individual's history with activities and lifestyle prior to life changing circumstances occurring is crucial for both forming a sense direction and a motivational driver when it comes to exercise participation and returning back to something that once played a big part in their routine. Even if circumstances have resulted in the individual no longer being able to properly participate in the same sport or perform the same movement, usually similarities and adaptations can substitute this. It could be something as simple as being able to balance whilst carrying an object single handedly, having the ability to move from seated to standing, returning to a sport and being able to walk for longer durations. This can also make rehabilitation exercise feel less like a ‘task’ and more like a form of self investment and personal development.
