The argument for #paternalleave grows louder. "According to the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), 32% of employers offer paid paternity leave, while around 40% offer paid maternity leave. Despite the gap being just 8%, the disparity highlights a bigger problem for dads: Corporate America often does not perceive them as caregivers. "SHRM found that parental leave policies that included dads led to an 89% increase in productivity and a 99% boost in employee morale. On top of that, 69% of fathers would leave or change their job if it meant spending more times with their kids, according to a study by Equimundo and Dove Men+Care. https://lnkd.in/esF45cXe

Only 27% of workers in the private industry have access to paid family leave (according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics) as of 2023. Yet, building better parental leave policies, and supporting working parents is crucial for employers looking to create a comprehensive benefits program. Did you know that last year, 57,310 people in NZ received paid parental leave? With a birth every 9 minutes, it’s no wonder it’s a hot topic! Navigating parental leave can be tricky, but we’re here to help! The Parental Leave and Employment Protection Act ensures employees’ rights during pregnancy and parental leave. Whether you’re meeting the six-month or 12-month employment test, there are specific entitlements you should know about. Here’s a quick rundown: Primary Carer Leave: 26 weeks of paid leave. Special Leave: 10 days of unpaid leave for pregnancy-related reasons. Partner’s Leave: Up to 2 weeks of unpaid leave. Extended Leave: Up to 12 months if you meet the 12-month employment test. Remember, paid parental leave payments are made by the Government, not employers. For more details on rates and how to claim, check out IRD’s website.
