I bloody love a holiday and really enjoyed family time away recently. It made me appreciate time away from work to recharge and take stock. It is so important to have downtime and enjoy time with family. Going on to family, I have a family member who's holiday allowance is 20 days plus stats. 20 DAYS.....20?! Imagine offering 20 days + stats!🤔 The worst part is her manager also expects employees to work every other Saturday and also take the usual 3 holidays off during Christmas period. So, essentially she gets just over 3.5 weeks off a year outside bank holidays (other than Christmas). As many are away those are easily frittered away! Imagine thinking that poorly of your employees that you deem 3.5 weeks a year enough.... If you work for an employer who offers the bare minimum and legal requirement, can they honestly think that much of you?! #holiday #annualleave #employeebenefits #hr #brentmused

I've never had a job where you take federal holidays off. For the most part, I don't even realize that it's a federal holiday until I get to the office and realize nobody is sending emails. Growing up, my family had a farm, so you didn't really have any choice on when things needed to get done. They just had to get done. After college, I was a broker at Marcus & Millichap. When you work on commission, federal holidays don't matter either, because there is always something that needs to get done. Now, running a business, it's the same way. Maybe that will change in the future, but for now, we always work on days like this. #presidentsday #multifamilyinvesting #apartmentinvesting #holidays

It's that time of year where you start seeing the below image all over Linkedin with comments like "What your holidays are like when you are in Logistics" As much as it is amusing and to a point, is true, for me it is a sad reflection of what people's mentality is nowadays. Annual leave is not a luxury, it is a necessity. A time to recharge, reconnect with yourself, friends, family etc. Allowing you to get back to your desk refreshed and ready to go. If you are constantly giving 110% of yourself, you will burn out, you are giving more than you actually have, which will result in the reverse of what your end goal, ultimately is. Annual leave also gives you the opportunity to hand the steering of the ship over to your second in command or other team members. You spend a large amount of time developing people and working with them to get them where you know they can be. Annual leave is an amazing opportunity to give them the autonomy that is needed and show them the trust and confidence you have in them to smash it out of the park. That's why on that that note, at 17:30 today my out of office will be going on and control handed over to my team who I know will thrive and flourish!
