“Amanah”, a three-syllable lexeme originating from the Arabic word “أمن”, is a term layered with meanings. Transliterated, it captures the notions of feeling secure and safe, a peaceful state brought about by being protected from danger, fear, and worry. Beyond its literal interpretation, Amanah is an embodiment of the commitment to believe and to be believed in. A serene confidence bestowed upon one, while highlighting an earnest dedication to fulfilling responsibilities by the other. The profound obligation to duty, to integrity, and the tranquillity derived from both giving and receiving trust. When someone places their Amanah with you, they are not merely expecting you to fulfill a task or a duty; they entrust you with their safety and their hopes for peace in your hands. It's a gesture of profound trust, belief, and faith. Trust that you are accountable, belief that you will see it through, and faith that you shall perform in the best manner, with all talents and potentials.
I marked my 100th day at PETRONAS Leadership Centre last week. I reflect on these past 100 days, the many 100s before them at Petrosains Sdn Bhd, and the many more 100s to come. Have I truly honored the Amanah entrusted to me? I honestly think the answer isn't that straightforward. Work is inherently complex, woven with challenges and expectations that, at times, may exceed my grasp. Despite my best efforts, there are occasions when I fall short of achieving the ideal outcomes. I can only strive to be more conscious of Amanah, endeavoring to act with integrity and industry in all that I do. Amanah to me has not just been a concept; it has been my compass. I've faced challenges that tested my resolve; moments when the easier path tempted me away from doing what’s right or taking the best course of action. Time and time again, the weight of this trust, the honor of this Amanah, guided me back. To my leaders, thank you for entrusting me with this Amanah. As I fight the good fight, please have patience with me, please continue believing, please keep the faith.
