Midnight Census is NOT the answer to nurse staffing - here are three core reasons: 1. It's a snapshot in time, NOT capturing the ADT activity. 2. It's NOT acuity-based, so the intensity and/or complexity is missed. 3. It's NOT detailed enough for nurse leaders to schedule and staff appropriately. It's time for a change and Parity can help! We offer a patient-centered, real-time labor management solution that accounts for actual patient volume and acuity. Where will nursing home resident safety truly be left once this mandate is implemented? The CMS nursing home staffing mandate has left OMB and is expected to be released by the Administration any day now. The proposed mandate, while intended to increases resident safety, could have many unintented consequences to resident safety. The nursing home minimum staffing mandate does not adequately address the ongoing nursing home workforce shortage, nor does it provide enough funding through a LTC staffing campaign to make the staffing requirements attainable for nursing homes. Facilities will either not be able to comply with the staffing mandate at all and have to close, or will not be able to comply without having to make significant sacrifices to other services and healthcare provider positons. #CareWeek #NursingHome #StaffingMandate #CMS
Both Democrats & Republicans agree: a federal staffing mandate for nursing homes is problematic. With a historic labor shortage & growing elderly population, it threatens access to care. Read an op-ed by Clif Porter, AHCA/NCAL SVP of Government Relations, in RealClearHealth. "This isn’t about politics, it’s about people. If we are to prepare for the growing number of seniors who will need long term care, then it is incumbent upon all of us to ensure that this care is available for everyone who needs it, now and in the future."

🏥 Attention Ohio Nursing Home Administrators 🏥 - Census from Cost Savings - Did you know that improperly sized briefs, especially bariatric ones, can be a huge hidden cost? In fact, bariatric briefs can cost double that of standard sizes. That's where proper sizing becomes crucial. According to recent data, 40% of nursing homes in Ohio are overspending on bariatric briefs due to improper sizing. Hidden unnecessary expenditures can stack up and strain your facility's resources, hindering your ability to provide top-notch care to your residents. Let's crunch the numbers: Certain bariatric brief sizes can be as much as double the cost of a case of a standard size brief. In the example below, the facility had ordered many more bariatric sizes than needed and ended up spending an extra $420 per week ($1,680 per month) buying the same number of total cases. This is equivalent to losing 6 Medicaid resident days on their census for the month! Here's the solution: Ensure your staff members are trained to accurately assess and fit patients with the appropriate brief size. Ask your current incontinence supplier to help you. By doing so, you can minimize unnecessary spending while ensuring the comfort and dignity of your residents. Knowledge is power, and stacking up improvements on smaller projects ends up leading to big progress for your facility. #ChoiceSupply #OhioNursingHomes #PatientCare #CostEfficiency #HealthcareManagement #BariatricBriefs #NursingHomeAdministration

Take a read of today's op-ed by nurse Jennifer Lawrence in Florida Today to learn more about the long-term care workforce crisis in Florida. "We’re losing our frontline caregivers at a time when more and more seniors are relying on long-term care. My care centers have done everything from wage increases to sign-on bonuses to recruit staff, but there are barriers affecting our recruitment efforts that are beyond our control." https://lnkd.in/ej5umUS6 #WhoWillCareFL

Healthcare staffing companies, be aware of the Congressional efforts to overturn the current administration's nursing home staffing mandate: Mandate Details: Requires minimum 3.48 hours of direct care per resident per day, with specific allocations for RNs and nurse aides. CRA Resolution: Senators Jon Tester and Joe Manchin, with Republican support, are sponsoring a resolution to overturn this mandate. Arguments Against Mandate: Critics claim it could force nursing home closures, especially in rural areas with workforce shortages, limiting senior care access. Industry Reaction: The nursing home industry calls the mandate an "extinction event" due to lack of support for recruiting and training staff. Support for Mandate: Advocates, including AARP, argue the staffing requirements could improve safety and care quality. If the resolution passes, it could nullify the mandate, impacting workforce needs and job placements in the nursing home sector.

Over 100,000 additional clinicians and $6.5B in annual costs are the numbers that the senior living industry will need to meet to comply with the new federal staffing requirements. As a result, facilities need to invest in their workforce pools while also navigating an industry-wide staffing shortage. Integrated technology solutions can help providers streamline their workflows, allowing them more time to work with patients and boosting morale – both of which will help with burnout and attract talent to the industry. The numbers tell the story themselves – the new regulations do not consider the current state of the senior care industry. The industry is not equipped to meet these standards, and we need more federal funding to make this a possibility. In the meantime, we will continue to support and guide these facilities in making decisions to navigate the challenges of burnout and staffing shortages by utilizing technology to streamline operations to benefit patients and providers.

🚨This announcement from the White House confirming the forthcoming federal staffing rule is beyond disheartening. Despite countless objections and warnings from the long-term care community, CMS intends to push through this short-sighted, damaging rule, which will only worsen our already struggling aging services ecosystem and further cripple access to care. LeadingAge PA will be analyzing the details of the final rule and will communicate to our members later this afternoon with more information. In addition to raising PA-specific implications with the state DOH, we will be partnering with LeadingAge, to prepare guidance on navigating next steps. https://lnkd.in/gKpwsBYX #longtermcare #agingservices #workforcecrisis
