As summer is coming to a close and university is in session, we want to highlight our summer 2024 interns for their hard work and commitment to our firm.   We asked each intern to provide what they learned this summer and their most memorable experience at Caldwell. Today, we highlight Zac Driscoll from Western University.   What have you learned? A memorable experience I had at Caldwell was the weekly Chairman meetings. I found during these meetings I was able to learn so much valuable knowledge that I can use to better myself, not only in the world of business, but also as a person. What was your most memorable experience at Caldwell? Something I learned during my time at Caldwell is how to improvise and find new ways to complete tasks. I found that the easiest or most obvious way isn’t always the best. Sometimes you need to think outside the box and do something you would have never thought of doing. By doing this you can find new creative ideas and help spark innovation and invention.

"We shouldn't have to do that" Recently I was talking to someone in the industry and that was their sentiment surrounding extended & enhanced onboarding for new summer interns. We had just discussed how our Workforce Development team gets a full week to get our new summer interns (current college students studying something construction or engineering related) and how appreciative we are that our Execs & Operations Team fully support this investment. Should we HAVE to do this? To me that is irrelevant - we have data and anecdotal evidence showing that we NEED to do this. Our commitment to "Investing In People" compels us to take the time necessary to set these young folks (most of whom are new to the industry) up for success & for "Winning In The Field" Reminds us of the quote from Henry Ford: "The only thing worse than training your employees and having them leave is not training them and having them stay." It's good for the interns, Sargent, our industry, and our region(s). *INTERN VIDEO CHALLENGE – Video 1* Like many of you, we have interns working with us at Roberts & Ryan this summer.  It’s important to us that it’s a mutually beneficial relationship – we get some work out of them and they learn in the process! ✅ We do our best to give them as much exposure to different parts of the business as possible.  They work with our fixed income and equity teams, help with our corporate access efforts, and spend time on the NYSE trading floor. ✅ We thought it would be fun to have them break into teams and make videos about the firm.  The idea being that it will be a catalyst for them to take a deeper look at the firm as a whole.  We have a couple of groups coming through, so I’m going to put the videos out as I get them. ✅ This first video was done by Quamique Marcial (“Q”) and Louis Davis, 2 college students that came to us from the Boys and Girls Club of Harlem, and Conrad Luce. It was interesting to me – and made me happy – to see their take on Roberts & Ryan. This video was done entirely by the interns, and this first group was a little pressed for time.  Can’t wait to see what the other teams put together! We just wrapped up another great internship with the addition of Luke Brassard to our team this summer. Luke, a graduate of St Sebastian school, is getting ready to start his sophomore year at Holy Cross. The way Luke came across our company is pretty interesting. He originally applied for an internship at the Needham Town Departments, but unfortunately, they didn't have any openings. However, someone from the town suggested him to me, sharing his resume and saying he might be a good fit. The rest is history, as they say. During the three months of the internship, what can we expect from interns? What can we teach them? I think there's a great opportunity to pass on some important lessons. In the end, it's up to the interns themselves to analyze, soak up, and put these teachings into practice. For me personally, I prioritize the following things: 1. Accountability - getting tasks done quickly and efficiently. 2. Resourcefulness - figuring out creative solutions. 3. Planning - like I always say, "proper planning prevents poor performance." 4. Relentlessness - the determination to finish tasks, no matter what obstacles come up. Luke has consistently shown these qualities since day one, earning the respect of our whole team in no time.
