We went a little more in-depth on the volunteer projects we hosted for our annual, National Week of Service. Over 15+ projects in the DFW community, all supporting our #ParkPlaceCares initiative.

And we could service. We partner with over 17 organizations locally throughout DFW to really give our members a chance to volunteer for what they feel passionate about. So today we took some time away from our normal day at work to volunteer here at Bonton Farms. So Bonton Farms believe there are 7 human essentials everybody needs or survive, thrive and go. We are trying to provide access to seven humanists. We did some landscaping and pulling some weeds and. Just unloaded about 50 bags of mulch to help with the flower beds. Today we're at Vogel Family Gateway. We are planning all types of vegetables today. Vogel is a nonprofit organization where we serve children who are experiencing homelessness as well as their families. There's not a whole like a lot of nature right here or right next to the freeway Speed Park Place so generously donated materials. That makes it like we were able to get these really awesome cedar planners. The kiddos here have loved the new additions to their playground. They keep looking out the door to see what's there. So it's going to be really therapeutic. For them, this feels great. This is gonna be a great addition for the children here at Family Gateway. Today is important to us. Within our week of service, we got to partner with CIS community and Schools. The mission of communities and schools of the Dallas region is support students in our community, giving them an opportunity to be successful in school and achieve in life. We are so honored that Park Place has us here today to be able to pack these bags for our students. You guys are doing a hygiene supply drive for us and we're going to distribute that to our schools, to our students. Especially who don't have access to these resources. We did 150 to 200 gift and hygiene bags for students within the Dallas County School District today. We came out to Metrocrest in Carrollton and we helped them build gardens that helped supply food to families in need. And so our mission is to provide programs and services that foster independence and promote self-sufficiency. So we have a we have a food pantry, we have workforce development and financial education. Coaching, rent assistance, utility assistance today was great. Y'all helped rebuild a pathway into the garden. We have a pavilion we could service. To me means an opportunity to come out and give back to the community and those families in need. And I love that Park Place gives the opportunity for us to do this important to us to be able to dive back into the community because the community has done so much for Park Place throughout the years.

Real change can happen only when the when a community comes together to work towards a common goal. At Shelter Associates, Community Mobilization is one of the pillars of our success.
In Episode 2 of our series on how we gain the support of the community and build #ambassadors of #change through our Community Mobilization initiatives, Jayda Khan, Community Worker at Shelter Associates talks about the concept of Corner Meetings.
Typically, Corner Meetings, are casual encounters with members of the slum community and can take place at tea stalls or kirana stores etc. They play a key role in reinforcing the message, discussions and actions to be taken. In addition, these meetings cement our relationship with the community.
