It’s #ThrowbackThursday, so we’re revisiting this award-winning, first-of-its-kind roundabout project from several years ago on WIS 145 in Richfield, Wisconsin. A unique system of five closely spaced #roundabouts was developed as a preferred alternative for the interchanges with I-41 and US 45. Selecting roundabouts over traditional intersections allowed the bridges over I-41 and US 45 to remain, saving millions in construction costs. Our roundabout design incorporated spiraling central islands and pavement markings, a relatively new technique in the U.S. at the time.
