“Comedy was something I had always thought about doing. Along with other things, I thought I might get around to it one day. However, when I was diagnosed it gave me more of a sense of urgency.” Monday was International Joke Day and we’re here to share Phil Jerky's story. He was diagnosed in 2017 with young onset Parkinson’s, he was just 36. But it prompted him to start activating a few ambitions. Comedy and Parkinson’s have a curious, coincidental partnership. Billy Connolly, Paul Sinha, Paul Mayhew-Archer are just a few of the famous faces living with the condition. They are comedians first and foremost, who were busy entertaining the masses long before their diagnosis came along. Affecting around 153,000 people in the UK, the impact of Parkinson’s is far reaching. With over 40 symptoms, experiences and severity can vary widely. So it’s an incredible feat for anyone to find the funny side when living with Parkinson’s. Getting up on stage to crack gags about a progressive neurological condition, after a shattering diagnosis, certainly takes some bottle. The people you see at a house party still going strong in the kitchen at 6am rather than the people that pass out at 2am are the people that will probably be more likely to develop an addiction to alcohol because it affects people differently biologically, it’s been proven that some people literally get addicted to alcohol quicker. It hits them more stronger but get addicted quicker because of it (Huberman on youtube does an unbelievable 2 hour analysis on this) Huberman lecture link below https://lnkd.in/evMrZ4V7 And the problem with drinking for these people is they end up the next day paying their short term loan of happiness with compound interest in the form of even lower levels of serotonin than before they started resulting in a perpetuating cycle, then they need to continually increase the alcohol levels to get serotonin levels up again as their body adapts to it, meaning they need to drink more and more as time goes on. If you think you are starting to drink too much try and put the brakes on before it gets too hard to stop. https://lnkd.in/eA_te-ae

Global Speaker, Tech Columnist, and Startup Marketing Advisor | Transforming Startups into Businesses
I need to get something off my chest and this only became clear to me 45 seconds ago. I think I speak for a lot of people when I say the following. I am DEEPLY traumatized. For me, the trauma from losing my older brother to terror really never went away but it definitely became bearable. Life was going on. But then it came to an immediate stop on October 7th, 2023, the day my heart was ripped from my body over and over. So what happened 45 seconds ago that made me realize this?

Check this out! So far the “tapping technique” I devised (or rather stumbled across whilst eating a Double Decker and musing upon my symptoms) that we’ve based the device on has had the following impact. Note we are NOT saying it will help everyone with these issues but this is quite remarkable. Stopped stammer, reduced or stopped dyskinesia, overcome vocal dystonia, stopped or reduced benign essential tremor, corrected Parkinson’s gait, reduced anxiety, corrected speech in people with Parkinson’s that is either too slow or too fast, reduced face masking in Parkinson’s, stopped motor tics. These are not my claims. These are real testimonies from people who are putting the tapping technique into action. I was sent this earlier; “Hey mate. Such a blessing seeing the Beech Band develop. Been trying out the tapping technique with my 9yr old daughter who has anxiety and we're awaiting a dyspraxia diagnosis. The tapping is calming her, reducing (maybe removing) her anxiety at that time, and reducing the impact of other issues. So simple. So powerful. She's loving it. Thanks mate.” It’s not as straight forward as just tapping yourself however. There’s some technique involved that helps you to make it effective. It’s simple but it makes all the difference. #beechband

Psychologist & Executive Coach | Imposter Syndrome Expert | Author, Own Your Greatness & Your Unstoppable Greatness | TEDx Speaker | 2X LinkedIn Top Voice
I am STILL taking this in! I know how important it is to internalize wins when you struggle with Imposter Syndrome and I have been working very hard to internalize this appearance on The Today Show with Hoda and Jenna, but it’s not been easy. Over the past few weeks, I have been fighting these Automatic Negative Thoughts (ANTs): 👉🏽 They are going to cancel the segment because the initial interview didn’t go well. 👉🏽 The segment only went well for a first timer. 👉🏽 I said something that embarrassing. So, these are the skills from “Own Your Greatness” that I have been using: 💁🏽♀️ I have relied on my “Imposter Syndrome Expert” to challenge me to do what I needed to do 💁🏽♀️ When presented with alternative information to my ANTs I took it in (e.g., when asked to be on the SIRIUSXM show, I reminded myself that if it went that badly, I wouldn’t have been asked) 💁🏽♀️ I meditated every day even when I didn’t want to 💁🏽♀️ I forced myself to watch the segment pretty quickly after it aired and stayed present with the positive and not harp on the negative I used as many of the skills that I teach as I could and it’s such a great reminder that even a positive and exciting experience can trigger your Imposter Syndrome no matter watching stage you are in your process of recovery. This is why practicing the skills (or learning the skills if you haven’t) is so important. 💁🏽♀️ If you want to work on your skills around your Imposter Syndrome, pick up our FREE Imposter Syndrome Toolkit and get started: https://lnkd.in/eEmsVphF #impostersyndrome #impostorsyndrome

Product Management Leader @ Intermountain | Ex Adobe | Building world-class teams and software that deliver results
Another masterclass podcast from Christian Idiodi. This time he's covering coaching impostor syndrome with Chris Jones. Two quotes in particular that resonated with me: (1) "Coaching impostor syndrome starts with having a culture of coaching” - Christian. My take: Imposter syndrome is a sensitive topic. If you don’t have trust (which comes with genuine coaching), you likely won’t even be aware that someone on your team is going through impostor syndrome. Yet, someone’s direct manager is often one of the people best positioned to boost confidence and help a person through impostor syndrome. (2) “It’s always hardest to see your own problem. It’s really a lot easier to see clearly a structure around somebody else’s problem.” - Chris. My take: I love how Chris talks about getting help on impostor syndrome from various different people beyond just your boss (especially as you move up in leadership). This quote reminds me very much of the peer-to-peer relationships we have among the directors in Intermountain’s Digital Services team. We cover a wide variety of different product areas (e.g. patient portal, contact center, IT service management, intranet, marketing site, etc.). Despite these differences, we often collaborate and coach each other through tough problems. This creates a magnifying effect on our ability to learn that helps us solve difficult problems and stretch ourselves in ways that overcomes impostor syndrome.
In the newest episode of Product Therapy, SVPG partner Chris Jones and I discuss imposter syndrome. We discuss what imposter syndrome looks like, the different things it can signal, and how to coach yourself and others through it. We share our own real stories about experiencing imposter syndrome and tactics to help you overcome it. In this discussion, we unpack: - What imposter syndrome looks like - Why it can be a useful signal - Our experiences with imposter syndrome - How to coach others through imposter syndrome - Why and how to ask others for help Links to the episode YouTube: https://lnkd.in/dBY_FpwV Spotify: https://lnkd.in/d3K5mRVU Apple: https://lnkd.in/dHiTkuSH #producttherapy #svpg #coachingimpostersyndrome
