Community parks and recreation programs are critical in promoting well-being and fostering a sense of community. As demonstrated in the video, parks provide not just physical space but also emotional and social benefits that enrich communities. Parks help reduce stress, promote physical activity, and foster social connections by providing safe and inclusive environments for relaxation, recreation, and social interaction. Our parks and recreation services are dedicated to creating welcoming spaces where everyone can feel included and thrive. Let's come together to further invest in and advocate for our community parks, fostering wellness and cultivating a true sense of belonging. #ParksMakeLifeBetter #ParksAndRecreation #CommunityWellBeing #SenseOfBelonging #InvestInParksAndPrograms This post draws on insights from the video 'Parks Make Lives Better':

🌳 Happy Parks and Recreation Month! 🌳 As we celebrate this month dedicated to the beauty and importance of our parks and recreational spaces, I want to highlight an essential aspect that enhances our enjoyment and preserves the natural habitat: advanced lighting controls. Proper lighting is crucial in making parks safe and welcoming for all visitors. However, it’s equally important to consider the impact of artificial lighting on local wildlife. Modern lighting control systems are designed to balance these needs effectively. Here’s how: Energy Efficiency: Advanced lighting controls use energy-efficient LEDs and motion sensors to ensure lights are only on when needed, reducing energy consumption and costs. Wildlife Protection: By minimizing light pollution and using targeted illumination, these systems help protect nocturnal animals, allowing them to thrive without the disruption caused by excessive lighting. Enhanced Safety: Well-lit pathways and recreational areas ensure that parks remain safe for visitors even after dark, encouraging more community engagement and outdoor activities. Community Enjoyment: Thoughtfully designed lighting creates a welcoming ambiance, making parks more enjoyable for evening strolls, sports, and events. Let’s celebrate Parks and Recreation Month by appreciating the technological advancements that make our parks friendlier for both humans and animals. Together, we can enjoy these beautiful spaces while ensuring they remain a sanctuary for wildlife. #ParksAndRecreationMonth #CommunityEngagement #WildlifeFriendly #SustainableLiving #SmartLighting #OutdoorSafety

It’s National AccessAbility Week! CRD parks are a public good that belong to everyone in the region, and as work continues to enhance health and well-being by providing equitable access to regional parks and trails, the CRD is thrilled to feature some of the accessibility improvements in the regional parks system over the last few years. Improvements include things like: 🚽 new accessible washroom infrastructure 🧑🦽 new mobi mats on popular beaches 🏞️ improved surfacing on accessible trails 🖥️ increased accessibility information online & in print to improve the trip and nature program planning experience 🧺 more wheelchair accessible picnic tables added in parks There’s always more to do, and providing equitable access to regional parks and regional trails is a priority for the CRD. Through 2024 and beyond, as park infrastructure is improved and replaced, accessibility and equity will continue to be key considerations. Read more about the CRD’s work to increase accessibility and improve equity in natural spaces in the region, here: https://ow.ly/pTrQ50RYE73.

Celebrating Love Parks Week: Embracing Our Green Spaces Love Parks Week, held annually from 26th July to 4th August, is a national celebration dedicated to appreciating and protecting the UK's parks and green spaces. Organised by Keep Britain Tidy, this event encourages communities to enjoy and care for these beautiful spaces that enhance our well-being and community life. Why Parks Matter Parks and green spaces are important and here are three reasons why: Promote Healthier Communities: Parks encourage physical activity, help reduce stress, and offer spaces for social interaction, contributing to the overall well-being and happiness of the population. Foster Stronger Communities: Parks serve as central gathering points for community events and fostering a sense of belonging and pride among the local population. Support a Sustainable Future: Parks function as natural filters, improving air and water quality, and play a crucial role in mitigating the impacts of climate change. How to Participate Visit your local park: Simply spending time in a park, whether alone or with others, helps to demonstrate public support for these beautiful spaces. Volunteer: Many parks rely on volunteers for maintenance and improvements. Check with your local council or park organisation to see how you can help. Organise or join Events: From nature walks and cleanup events to exercise classes and educational workshops, participating in or hosting an event can enhance your park experience. Advocate: Support campaigns and initiatives that aim to protect and expand green spaces in your area. Share Your Experience: Use social media to share photos and stories from your favourite parks, inspiring others to appreciate and visit these spaces. The Future of Parks Love Parks Week reminds us of the ongoing need for public support and responsible use to preserve these spaces for future generations. By celebrating and caring for our parks, we ensure they remain cherished parts of our communities. Please share in the comments below which local park is your favourite and why it holds a special place for you. Photos are welcome too!
