Our entire team have assisted with some legal aspect of our client Peak Pharmacy’s new, game changing pharmacy site. From the initial development agreement and construction documents, to our commercial department providing advice on the contracts for the systems, our employment department continuing to provide a full employment law service to the company as a whole and to our corporate team advising on their strategic sales and purchases. The pharmacy sector is not currently a buoyant one due to being vastly underfunded, against the rising costs that every business faces but with no way of recouping those. However, to see a local company, reinvest heavily to adapt, is inspirational! Well done to the whole team Peak Pharmacy, your resilience knows no bounds! We are sure this will be transformative in every way. #legaladvice #chesterfield #southyorkshire #employmentlaw #commerciallaw #contracts #contractadvice #law #lawyer #team #commercialadvice #constructionlaw #development #supplycontracts

Community pharmacy; what a horror story! 🙈 After a decade away from the world of community pharmacy, my recent shock came from ITV's eye-opening documentary on the struggles we face. 😱 The reality is stark – dispensing items at a loss is a practice that demands an urgent halt! 💔 I have many friends who are community pharmacy owners and they tell me they are having to close their pharmacies. 🥱 One friend tells me he hasn’t slept at night since he was forced to buy a second pharmacy to protect he first one from stark competition which put him in a debt that’s escalating. 😪 Another hasn’t had a day off in two years due to the high costs of locums and lack of pharmacy managers. Let's dive deeper: Picture a business model where stock is sold at cost, and a meager 67p is charged as a transaction fee – sounds unreal, right? 🤯 Well, that's the current situation for community pharmacists. It's time for a paradigm shift! 💪💊 In any other retail arena, a minimum 50% markup is the norm to cover operational costs. Yet, here we are, selling below cost, a practice that defies logic. 🧐 It's high time we reassess our strategies and demand fair compensation for the essential services community pharmacies provide. 🌐 Together, let's ignite a conversation about the economic challenges facing community pharmacies. 🗣️ Share your thoughts, experiences, and let's rally for change! 🚀💼 #pharmacy #pharmacystudent #communitypharmacy NPA - National Pharmacy Association Pharmacy Business #retailpharmacy #retailindustry #retail #nhs #nhslongtermplan

I have noticed this in our area. Not sure why? “Sometimes Seattle earns its gloomy reputation. It was cold, dark, and wet on the February morning I arrived, and I needed a new umbrella.” “I’ve spent the last few months looking into the national meltdown of the American drugstore. As I report in a new feature Fortune published today, the industry-wide problems facing retail pharmacies—chains and independents—are hurting all of us. Big chains are shutting down hundreds of locations; CVS and Walgreens have seen their share prices slump over the past year, while Rite Aid filed for bankruptcy protection in October. Pharmacists citing burnout and overwork are fleeing the industry. For customers, whether we’re trying to buy allergy pills and toothpaste from a locked-up “plexiglass prison” or to fill a basic prescription, many of us are losing access to the front line health care services that pharmacies have long provided. “Pharmacies are in shambles,” Abdikadir Athur, a Seattle-area pharmacist, told me. “It’s unbelievable what’s happening right now.” I went out to Seattle in February to see some of these shambles firsthand. The epicenter of the local pharmacy implosion is Bartell’s, a beloved and storied corner drugstore founded in 1890 and family-owned until 2020—when the Bartell family sold it to the long-struggling Rite Aid. Since filing for bankruptcy protection last year, Rite Aid, trying to claw its way out of debt, has closed down more than a third of Bartell’s 67 locations in the Seattle area. “It’s heartbreaking,” several current and former Seattle residents told me. These closures are contributing to reduced pharmacy access across the city, and the state: Over a period of 13 months ending in early March, 81 pharmacies—more than 8% of all Washington pharmacies—have gone out of business, according to the Washington State Pharmacy Association. The fate of the state’s pharmacies is a microcosm of a crisis that extends far beyond the Pacific Northwest. American drugstores are caught in a perfect storm of factors, including the wide-ranging retail apocalypse, increased e-commerce competition, and the grim shadow of the opioid crisis. “. If you wonder why prescription costs are going up….. look no further than your insurance plan provider. Does it say ESI or Express Scripts on your card? They have become the biggest insurance provider and are not only charging companies that use them, employees that use them and now the end providers have to pay if we choose to accept them. Ask your employer to change insurance companies.

#Pharmacists are numbers only in some organizations! , well , Rami , isn't it all about numbers? my answer is simple: if it is only about numbers , let us dissolve our College and switch #pharmacies into one of two : a governmental run Pharmacies ( some countries did it and failed ) , or grocery stores run by business people only ( isn't this the current situation 🤔) , the root causes for this crisis are : - ignoring many shouts on this issue before for many years -no legislations of any type that protect #whistelblowers -#pbms -outdated #reimbursement models from the 90s ! #corporate influence inside #government decision makers #pharmacists being too polite and passive about the #profession when compared to other #healthcare professionals , -non accountable people in pharmacy world pushing accountable people to do wrong things ( check the US ,you will see where we are heading !) -a hidden "slave master " #workculture based on loyalty not skills or work ethics around patients and professionals. A top theme that emerged from a survey and town halls with pharmacy professionals earlier this year was corporate, volume and revenue pressures. We heard that pressures placed on pharmacy professionals are real and can be pervasive. Take care of your most important asset (the pharmacist) and you won't have to deal with unions. Most health professionals are likely union neutral and don't even think about unions because of the nature of their job,,,helping patients (not customers). That is the "X" factor employee benefit (self-satisfaction you are making a difference) and also to the benefit of their chain employers (can work people terrible hours while overworking and underpaying them). Because pharmacists are in a helping profession, they will tolerate longer, worse hours and so-so pay as highly skilled, highly educated professionals, but only to a point... Now that the line has been crossed for many who work for chains, chain pharmacists everywhere now may be thinking either of a union or working elsewhere. "Pharmageddon" and more intense union activities would not have happened if decision makers were more thoughtful in their strategic decision making. Now these things in the long run may cost them more money than doing the right thing in the first place. This post is coming from a former chain/big box store pharmacist who actually at one time enjoyed working in that model of practice because one really can directly make a difference in the health of patients.
