We are 59 days away from opening our new crisis house in March! This week, we have been starting to prepare to move in some furniture and create a safe and cozy environment in the house. By opening a new crisis house, our agency will be better equipped to serve survivors immediately after they leave their traffickers to help their basic needs, such as food, clothing and shelter. Our crisis house will be a short-term residential program that will offer these survivors the chance to pause, take a deep breath, and make a plan. The crisis house will be a safe place where those who have faced unimaginable challenges can find healing and support from our dedicated team. Healing starts here. From our crisis house, if it is a safe option, survivors may decide to go back home to heal with the support of their family or they may need or choose to go to a residential program out of state. Survivors may also choose to join our residential stabilization program at Covered House where they can start the hard work of processing their trauma with our clinical staff. World spine day focuses on creating awareness about the prevailing spine disorders, their impact on one's life, sign and symptoms, diagnosis and preventive measures to ensure a healthy and happy life. Every year on 16 October, various health organizations and concerned communities around the world unite to organize various campaigns and activities on the importance of physical activities, proper posture for long-term back health and injury prevention at various local levels to educate and encourage people to participate in learning and practising to keep the spine healthy. This year, 2024, the World Spine Day theme is “Support Your Spine”. The theme highlights that individuals must prioritize spinal health across all aspects of life. 🌟 **Supporting the Heart of Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside** 🌟 Working as a fundraiser for both **Heart Tattoo Society** and **2 Paycheques Away** has shown me just how resilient the Downtown Eastside (DTES) community is—and how crucial it is to support those who face mental health challenges, homelessness, and addiction. At **Heart Tattoo Society**, we run community meal programs, providing meals and a safe space for marginalized individuals. These meals aren’t just about food—they’re about showing our neighbors they’re not alone and reminding them they’re part of a caring community. Meanwhile, with **2 Paycheques Away**, we’re helping to shift the stigma surrounding these challenges by sharing real, resilient stories through coffee table books, offering complimentary haircuts, and donating essentials. These small acts of kindness make a big impact on people’s self-esteem and sense of dignity. These efforts are only possible because of **collective action**. Every individual, business, or charity that joins us helps create a stronger support network.
