Winning together is how we approach our work with schools and districts seeking transformative change. Our recent partnership with school leaders and district administrators in Philadelphia showcased how investing in targeted teacher development leads to significant student success 🚀✨ Together, we crafted a two-year professional learning program to improve math instruction, which included monthly professional development and on-site coaching. 📊 ⬇️ Hear directly from the teachers who experienced the change, as they share how this program shaped their teaching and their students' learning. Our Mentor Teachers, chosen for their record of driving academic results, are fired-up to equip and inspire teachers to facilitate dynamic summer instruction to ~70k kids this summer. This is the piece that I love most about the NSSI model. Participating teachers learn from award-winning educators from around the country. Using exceptional ELA and math curricula, teachers will gain confidence in discourse-based teaching practice that they can use next fall to improve Tier 1 instruction. #k12education #summerlearning #TeachingAndLearning

“The requirements, standards, and curriculum that teachers are held accountable for are not always created by educators in the modern-day classroom. This disconnect between what is happening at the state-level and what is happening in schools has an impact on students every day.” At Breaking Bread for Education, Class 9 delved into the diverse interpretations of the phrase "world-class education": the varied educational expectations of students globally, the necessity for a curriculum that resonates with a range of lived experiences, and the significance of reframing the value of educators' skills. Throughout the discussion, one solution became evident: let's empower educators to shape the future of education by involving them directly in policy changes at the state and local levels. Through the strategic use of communication and advocacy, we can begin to think radically about the role of educators and the ripple effect their work has on communities. #EducationMatters #EmpowerEducators #GlobalPerspective

This fall, a school district reached out with a clear goal: they wanted to connect their literacy initiatives from elementary through high school and get their non-ELA teachers involved. They gave me their ELA standards and explained what they wanted to achieve. I knew right away that walking in there and suggesting a complete revision of lesson plans with added complexity wouldn’t fly. That approach would be met with resistance—and understandably so. Non- ELA teachers still have to teach their standards and can’t afford to throw off their core curriculum. Instead, we focused on what they were already doing, and I showed them how a few small tweaks could fit naturally into their routine. Guess what? It worked! You could actually see them relax once we started our conversations. We explored simple ways to incorporate literacy into non-ELA classes—like using vocabulary games and class discussions. They didn’t have to do more; they just needed to know what to do differently to get literacy into their classrooms. As we talked, they realized how close they already were. They just needed a few small tweaks to make it happen. The result? Non-ELA teachers became part of the culture of literacy that’s being built in that district. They are setting up systems to support literacy and each other. And we did all of this together in a way that felt natural and easy. You don’t need huge sweeping changes to have an impact—small adjustments lead to big results. #LiteracyMatters #Edchat #EducationLeadership #SchoolLeadership #ProfessionalDevelopment #Edupreneur

Empowering schools and districts to create compelling learning experiences that boost student achievement.
#DidYouKnow? Catherine Truitt, North Carolina State Superintendent, recently pitched a “comprehensive math reform” proposal to a state legislative committee, with the target goal of preparing students for success in Math 1. Math 1 (typically taught in 8th or 9th grade) has often been referred to as a gateway course. Studies suggest that if students are successful in Math 1, they are more likely to graduate on time, seek postsecondary degrees & certifications, and be more successful in the workforce. Truitt is asking both elementary and middle schools to provide students with at least 60 minutes a day of focused math skills instruction. What do you think? Will setting daily time requirements for math instruction help? What changes would YOU recommend to help students be more successful in Math 1? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments! 👇 Did you also know that Encounter Learning has trained math coaches who are experienced in supporting both elementary and middle school teachers with effective math skills instruction strategies? If we can be of service to your school or district, drop us a message or give us a call at (919) 740-3307! #Math1 #ChangeIsComing #MathSkillsInstruction #ExperiencedCoaches #EncounterLearning

IT'S NEVER TOO LATE TO LEARN. One thing I love about being an educator is that I get to cultivate the habit of being a life long learner as well and not just a teacher I find myself drawn to acquiring, applying and transferring knowledge and this is one definition of Satisfaction for me. This Month of June in the Redefining Math Education& Educators project Community, We would be diving into the world of evidence based math intervention strategies for K-12 teachers to empower math success all. ( The mini course is out already) Are you a Math teacher willing to share your wealth of knowledge, or a Math teacher seeking to learn and skill up? This is a project you should be part of. It's never too late to learn if you must teach and never to late to teach if you have learnt well. Regional Educational Laboratory (REL) Midwest developed the Teaching Fractions Toolkit tailored to empower 6th grade teachers in elevating students' fraction comprehension and problem-solving skills. This toolkit will be publicly released in 2026, but a limited number of schools and districts have an immediate opportunity to access the toolkit and receive free professional development by participating in a study to evaluate its impact on teachers and students. The toolkit includes free, evidence-based professional development and resources that align with the evidence-based What Works Clearinghouse practice guide: Developing Effective Fractions Instruction for Kindergarten Through 8th Grade. What are the benefits of participating? ◼ Teachers will receive training on using evidence-based practices in fractions instruction to use in their classrooms to improve student outcomes. ◼ School and district math leaders will receive resources to facilitate the professional development and support teachers in improving their fraction instruction. ◼ Schools and districts will receive summaries of research findings specific to their school and district. Visit this page to dive deeper into the toolkit’s benefits and contact REL Midwest to learn more: https://lnkd.in/etJebSNU #MathEducation #PDforTeachers #MathTeachers #EdLeadership
