Dear colleauges, The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) will be organizing the 19th edition of the Symposium on the Future Networked Car (FNC-2024). The Symposium will be organized as a fully virtual event, over a span of four days from 11-14 March 2024, from 13h00 to 16h00 CET each day. FNC-2024 will examine the technology and global regulatory framework that will support deployment of highly automated mobility solutions. The latest technology advances in the areas of vehicle connectivity and applications of artificial intelligence (AI) will be discussed as ways to enhance automated vehicle development and operation, vehicle design and manufacturing, road management, and passenger experience. Taking into account that collaboration is an essential component to develop successful standards to realize a safer future mobility powered by AI, the Symposium will delve into the relationships between vehicle communications and automated driving by analysing the crucial role of testing requirements and regulatory frameworks. The session structure will be as follows: 11 March 2024: OPENING CEREMONY plus SESSION 1: Recent Developments in International Vehicles Regulations 12 March 2024: SESSION 2: Artificial Intelligence Applications for Vehicles 13 March 2024: SESSION 3: Worldwide Status of Automated Vehicles Testing 14 March 2024: SESSION 4: Vehicular Communication for Automated Driving Registration to the event is free but mandatory and can be accessed for each session from the programme page. A separate registration is required for each day. For more information, visit the FNC-2024 official website here. Also, a new ITU-led expert group on automated driving, will kick off on 8 March 2024 and aims to determine the requirements for all new cars sold from 2032 onwards to be equipped with communications technology for safe automated driving. The group will explore the requirements for vehicle communications technology and standardization aiming to recommend solutions for international regulation. Key challenges to address include the need for reliable automated lane merging, an essential component of safe automated driving that is yet to be solved. FNC Session 4 is dedicated to this topic. For any inquiries, including sponsorship opportunities, look at the related engage page or contact tsbevents@itu.int Register: https://fnc.itu.int/

Excellent discussion between all three speakers about what it will take for the UK to lead on AV technology deployment at home and selling into global markets. At the heart of it a safety control regime built on the sharing of key vehicle system data with a smart regulator, much the same as happens in the aviation industry. There will be pushback but Oxa backs that tough approach to get it right first-time.
The UK's Automated Vehicles Bill has "safety at its heart" according to Minister of State Nusrat Ghani MP who joined Oxa Founder and CTO Paul Newman on stage today at Zenzic's CAM Innovators' Day, alongside NIC chair Sir John Armitt. Key topics: 🇬🇧🌎 The AV Bill will position the UK to lead the global deployment of robust self-driving technology. ⚖️ 📈 Secondary legislation will force detailed data sharing from vehicles in-use. 🛡️🔒 A tough approach on safety will accelerate the delivery of AVs. #SelfDrivingSafety #ExplainableAi #AVBill

I recommend this video to those companies working to change airline travel so that only one Human pilot is needed and one Robotic pilot as copilot. "Money Saving" Ideas are a disservice to Human transportation. #aviation
Why did this self-driving car suddenly go out of control? Some autonomy implementations maintain a distance not only from forward vehicles but also from vehicles behind. While we don't have public info about this accident, one possibility is that the rear sensors may have begun incorrectly reporting an imminent rear-end collision, which enabled the autonomy to begin executing emergency maneuvers. Do you see a better explanation? Modern engineering safety processes have evolved to consider how complex software like autonomy and intended functions can cause accidents in unexpected ways. For example, STPA models control loops to identify how control actions, controller beliefs, decision priorities, and feedback can come together to create unsafe behaviors. The sketch at the end of the video shows a simple example (sorry, LinkedIn doesn't allow videos & pictures at the same time). This week at MIT we are hosting the Virtual STAMP Workshop for professionals around the world to share their experiences with modern safety processes like STPA and what they learned about their own applications. Registration is free. We start each day at 11am Boston time (UTC -4). For more information and free tutorial videos, see https://lnkd.in/gK95aZaS #STAMPworkshop #STPA #STAMP #safety

#RoboGaze becomes member of #ASAM and initiates a new field of automotive standardization for safety The Association for Standardization of Automation and Measuring Systems (#ASAM) is a non-profit organization promoting and establishing standardization in automotive development and testing, built on the collaboration of international car manufacturers, suppliers, tool vendors, engineering service providers, and research institutes. Member companies and organizations include General Motors, Ford, Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes, MAN, Volvo, Renault, Toyota, Honda, Siemens, Bosch, Thyssenkrupp, Sony, Hitachi etc. and dozens of the world’s leading universities of technology. They cooperate in developing ASAM standards in software development, measurement and calibration, diagnostics, test automation, data management and analysis, all applied worldwide, and all based on real use cases. As #roboGaze’s vision is to provide safer roads for everyone, since the beginning we have been striving to create products whose quality and reliability are beyond question by definition the most transparent way: the acquisition of the highest industry standards, e.g. #ASPICE and ISO. However, as Driver Support Systems (or Driver/Cabin Monitoring Systems) are a relatively new field of automotive industry, the standardization of their development is still an open question, in spite of recently enacted (EU) or expected (USA, China) legislation and industry benchmarks (Euro NCAP). #RoboGaze has taken the initiative to launch this mission. ASAM’s contribution is inevitable and its support is invaluable in the entire process from ideation to release, which includes connecting stakeholders, coordinating work groups, and developing, maintaining and promoting these new standards in validation, file formats, data models, protocols, interfaces etc. We are proud to have become a member of this group of excellence, and will use our knowledge and abilities to achieve a new level of safety together in the increasing complexity of mobility technology.
