What would be possible for our relationships and communities if we courageously address the topics we've been avoiding? Successful movements require challenging conversations - what would be possible if we could get through those moments in a generative and loving way? What does it look like to have some of the conversations we’ve been avoiding or are afraid to have? This two-part series is on difficult conversations and centered around principle #6 of the Community Centric Fundraising principles. These transformative workshops will take place on: May 23rd and June 6th, from 10 - 12pm PST. Many of us shy away from challenging conversations, fearing potential strain on relationships with donors, colleagues, or friends. As a result, embracing this principle often proves to be one of the most daunting yet impactful steps in our journey. To enact meaningful change, we must confront the characteristics of white supremacy culture that perpetuate fear of conflict, perfectionism, and the pressure to always be "nice." By shattering our fragility, we unlock the path to liberation and authentic connection. Join Shireen Muri and Fluer Larson for an opportunity to embark on this deeply personal and professionally transformative journey. This workshop is open to all nonprofit white staff, not just those directly in fundraising. Together, let's commit to the hard but necessary emotional labor of becoming more reliable allies in service to justice and equity. A Workshop on Community Centric Fundraising Principle #6 Dates: Thursday May 23rd and June 6th 10am - 12pm PST virtual all sessions recorded https://ow.ly/aiK350RCgSK *While this isn’t an intro to CCF we welcome white folks who are on a journey around anti-racism work. #CCF #fundraising #nonprofits #washingtonstate

If you’re a leader of a nonprofit it’s likely that you are feeling overwhelmed. So when Suzanne Strassberger and I come to you with a request to make sure the voices of your clients and communities are heard loud and clear in November, we are well aware of how much is already on your plates. But we also believe that our democracy and much of the work you do is at stake this year. In this blog post, we’ve laid out some simple steps you can take as a nonprofit to promote voting. We even give a hat tip to Taylor Swift. Take a look and let us know if we can help. #nonprofits. #democracy #votingrights

Rusty Stahl of Fund the People has shared a blog reflecting on two new studies from the Center for Effective Philanthropy (CEP) that offer more information about the crisis facing America’s nonprofit workforce — and how much funders do or do not care to address it. Rusty argues "that grantmakers are missing the fundamental connections between their own funding practices, how grantees can compensate staff, why burnout is on the upswing, and how all of this damages the ability of grantors and grantees alike to achieve their shared goals." I was disappointed this morning to wake up to a reminder that Fearless Fund is still amidst a lawsuit because they’ve provided grant opportunities to Black women. And it’s time to sound the alarm. 🚨📣 These types of lawsuits are incredibly dangerous, and we’ve already seen the aftermath of recent affirmative action decisions give companies and organizations the wiggle room to start to remove valuable programs and resources that could grow and advance black and brown communities. 🌱✨ Only 50% of companies survive after 5 years in business. That survival rate is 3% for Black women owned businesses given the same time frame. The reality is Black women owned businesses need additional resources to have a fighting chance for survival. 💸✊🏾 Watch the video below. Share with your community. And contribute financially, if you can, to any efforts surrounding this issue. Our work is far from done in creating equitable access for business owners. 💖 Watch here: https://lnkd.in/gWxVVFev Donate here: https://lnkd.in/gMDiVdCY

Philanthropy was built backward—it started with creating systems, strategies and outcomes instead of rooting itself in understanding, relationships and trust. To realize progress, philanthropic leaders must engage in introspection, questioning the systems they have created and are now responsible for stewarding. Have we upheld the community's trust? Do we understand the real needs of the communities we serve? Have we built strong, resilient networks? Are our actions increasing equity or creating further disparities? Great article link below! https://lnkd.in/gk8es_eY
