When children cannot live with their parents, they do best with kin. • Kinship families deserve the same support as foster families. • Supported kinship is the bridge to equity, particularly for African American, American Indian, Alaska Native, and other communities of color. • Kinship families caring for children outside the child welfare system should have access to targeted supports. • Children and youth must remain connected to their families and communities. • Every child deserves to grow up with the people who know and love them and who are supported in doing so. • Efforts to help children remain with parents should include giving them supports, services, and resources needed to provide for the child. Every day, tens of thousands of #fostercare children are being robbed of millions in financial entitlements by the state - with many unaware that they even qualified for financial entitlements to begin with. That’s where we step in. Here at Children’s Advocacy Institute (CAI), we fight for the rights of our country’s foster care youth, ensuring this group is protected, respected, and is awarded the money they are entitled to by law. As part of this initiative, we have released a report outlining the injustices our foster care youth have faced thanks to a lack of government protection. This report also features a state-by-state grading system, acknowledging those states who have made efforts to protect their foster kids, and reprimanding those who have failed to do so. Foster care youth should be protected, and it shouldn’t be our job to ensure they are.
