The impact!! I originally created this map to see which states students who engage with The Sports Connect are located in and noticed that other countries were also being represented. When I first started this page the goal was to connect with HBCU students, but this has grown bigger and better than I imagined. Check out the photo below to see the states and other countries that have students engaging with The Sports Connect ☺️ Top 5 Cities: New York City, Atlanta, Chicago, Washington, and Los Angeles.

I am so proud of WMCAT's 2023 annual report! ⭐️ Both the paper report and interactive digital webpage include program outcomes and demographics, financial data, and student stories. As always, my favorite part was interviewing our students! I learned something new from each student I talked to: Anthony, Skyler, and Kiara. This wouldn't have been possible without Megan, my director and partner in this work. 🧡 Grateful for you! ➡️ Check it out at wmcat.org/report. #communications #grandrapids #annualreport

Go to High School Go to College The "Go-to-High-School, Go-to-College" program, established in 1922, concentrates on the importance of completing secondary and collegiate education as a road to advancement. Statistics prove the value of this extra impetus in making the difference in the success of young African-American men, given that school completion is the single best predictor of future economic success. Through the Go-to-High-School, Go-to-College educational initiative, young men receive information and learn strategies that facilitate success. Alpha men provide youth participants with excellent role models to emulate.
Southern Regional Vice President Brother Cecil E. Howard, JD, shares an example of the impact the 93rd Southern Regional Convention of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has had for young people in Charlotte during its Public Program on Thursday night. My question is why is this question being asked and discussed every single day? Is it that we don't like that it hasn't happened and our expectation is that it was supposed to happen by now? Is it that we think the more often we predict and talk about this happening, the more likely it is that it will happen? Maybe it's the opposite, i.e., the longer we talk about it happening, and the longer time goes by without it actually happening, the more likely it is that it won't happen. Or, perhaps this conversation every day is really a form of entertainment in and of itself. #ncaa #collegesports https://lnkd.in/gnYtq8BQ

If every Community College grad would just proudly post their CC alma-mater (along with their subsequent transfer institution, of course) it would be Transformative. One reason more people don't know of and celebrate the transformative power of Community Colleges in America -- hence the silly and often racialized stigma -- is that so many transfer students immediately delete their community college history on LinkedIn as soon as they "get in." As if attending a CC wasn't instrumental, pivotal, and transformative in achieving their dream school transfer. Which, paradoxically, only further reinforces the silly stigma they're apparently afraid of. Got stereotype threat? Gentle reminders: recently retired UCLA Chancellor Block was once a transfer student from Foothill College. And now it's on his LinkedIn. Apple founders Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak both dropped out of elite colleges/universities after just one year because it wasn't worth the money. That's why they attended De Anza College. Which had fantastic computer access and CS classes. And yep, that's why Apple is still headquartered in Cupertino. Ditto Hollywood: Tom Hanks? Arnold Swarzenegger? Both are proud champions of their CC alma maters. And the list goes on and on. And on. So why not join them?
🎉 April is Community College Month! 🎉 Have you attended a #CommunityCollege or earned an associate's degree? If so, have you included this in your LinkedIn profile? 👀 👀 Let's #EndCCStigma and celebrate #CCMonth by showcasing our #TransferPride right here on LinkedIn!
