The MARS PETCARE BIOBANK stands to be the most comprehensive real-world study of its kind aimed at studying a pet’s health throughout its life to enable new scientific discoveries to improve pet health. It is made possible by pet owners enrolling their healthy pets at participating Banfield Pet Hospital, VCA Animal Hospitals, and BluePearl Pet Hospital clinics. At BluePearl, healthy pets of Associates as well as pet blood donors can participate in the study. Toccoa, the sweet pet of our clinical studies coordinator, Susan Wadulack, CVT, was our first participant in the study at BluePearl and is now in her third year. Here’s why Susan chose to enroll her pet: She previously had two dogs who she sadly lost to diseases that weren’t detectable even mere months beforehand. Susan sees the study as an opportunity for scientists to identify potential signs of disease and find new ways to help prevent or even predict illness. She shared, “My dog (Toccoa) is helping science. I wanted her to make a difference for future pets - paying it forward - for Sadie and Lily, the pets we lost. Knowing that we’re going to make a difference, that years to come it will feel good that Toccoa and I were part of it, you can’t get much better than that, especially as a nurse.” Like Toccoa, today's pets have the power to make #ABetterWorldForPets of the future. 10 Years of Growth, Learning, and Life 🐾 I can’t believe it’s been 10 years since I started NorthPoint Pets & Company. Back then, I knew nothing about running a business. But through trial and error, I figured out how to manage it all—from customer service, finance, and marketing, to HR, inventory, and even cleaning! Some of those hats fit better than others 😅, but I kept pushing forward. Over the years, I also pursued my passion for pet health, earning my MS in nutrition and now working toward a PhD—things I would have laughed at if you’d told me I’d be doing back in year one! Balancing education and running a business hasn’t been easy, but I knew it would help me bring even more value to the pets and pet parents who put their trust in us. These 10 years haven’t been without challenges. Along the way, I raised three amazing dogs—Beau, Dasso, and Taser—who were there through the ups and downs of business ownership. Losing Dasso in 2020 and Tase in 2024 were some of the hardest moments of my life, but their impact on me and NorthPoint is part of why I do what I do. It’s been a whirlwind—lots of highs, some lows—but through it all, NorthPoint Pets has flourished, thanks to an incredible team and our loyal customers. ☠ ☠☠ IMPORTANT FOOD ALERT! DOGS GETTING SICK & DYING. This from the founder/organizer of this Facebook group that has been tracking the issue. Lest you think it is false info, this is not Purina's first serious recall where dogs have gotten sick and I learned about this particular issue via Dr. Judy Morgan, a highly respected holistic veterinarian. I felt it was important to pass along to you. "Since 12/5/23 in my Saving Pets One Pet @ A Time group on Facebook we have 87 dogs and cats (76 dogs, and 11 cats) that are sick from Purina, 10 of which have died. It seems to be from all different types of Purina, with Purina Pro Plan, and Purina One being the most common. Pet Parents have been contacting them and at first they were offering $10 coupons, now they are offering to pay pet parents vet bills if they don’t sue. If you or someone you know is feeding this food, I recommend you stop the food immediately. Do NOT wait until your pet gets sick or Purina issues a recall. My dog Duncan died in 2019 from Hills Science Diet, 2 weeks BEFORE Hills issued the recall. Dogs/cats were sick for 6 months before the recall. 🐶 🐈 🐾 Happy National Pet Day to all my fellow animal enthusiasts out there 🎉 If you have followed Citruslabs, you already know that we ventured into pet health. As pet parents, we know our furry friends deserve the best. Unfortunately, navigating the pet supplement market feels like the Wild West, with promises of health wonders but little transparency or scientific backing. It's also no wonder that the barrier to conducting a clinical study with pets is fairly high! This is why many pet-related supplement studies have very questionable sample sizes (e.g., 10-24 animals in a 2-arm RCT). The more I learn about how things are done in pet health, the more it's clear to me that the field is 7-10 years behind human health. For example, many US States don't allow telemedicine for pets, and everything is very centralized around vet offices. This makes it harder for pet-focused supplement brands to showcase product efficacy the same way their human counterparts do. This is just one reason why I'm so excited about this market. Our goal is to ensure pet health products are held to the same rigorous standards as human ones 🐶💪 A recent study conducted by yours truly 🫡, surveyed over 1,000 individuals and showed that 71% of pet owners feel lost in a sea of pet supplement choices, and 95% are crying out for products backed by solid science. That's where we step in!
