💡 UNIC #EngagedResearch Spotlight 🌆 Engaged Students for Inclusive Cities In December 2023, an international workshop was organized on Campus Woudestein in Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam to promote an inter-organizational dialogue about engaged research. Led by Dr. Asya Pisarevskaya, the participants ranged from student-researchers and senior researchers at the EUR and the University of Liège (ULiège) to representatives of the Rotterdam municipality and anti-discrimination agency RADAR. During the workshop, opportunities and difficulties that lie in the mutual cooperation between municipality, social organizations and universities were discussed. Close listening and co-creation have proven to be of key importance in effective inter-organizational collaboration, so that policy can be based on local and academic knowledge which fit with the needs of broader society. The students gained insights on effective ways of acting and practical tools to be better engaged in their research. Additionally, the representatives from the city of Rotterdam have obtained valuable insights into their challenges in migration and diversity governance. ⚡ The international exchange of experiences between the two programs contributed to significant mutual learning - important work which will be taken forward in 2024! Today, I had the privilege of discussing the next Framework Program with Cecilie Brøkner from Innovation Fund Denmark and Director General for Research and Innovation Marc Lemaitre in Brussels. The complex challenges facing our societies demand a fresh scientific approach. Collaboration among policymakers, businesses, civil society, and scientists from diverse disciplines is crucial. It's about setting aside disciplinary boundaries and working together from the outset. As universities we must actively engage in partnerships, knowledge circulation, and interaction with society around us. This collaborative spirit is at the core of AAU's mission-oriented approach. I firmly believe that universities play a pivotal role in driving change and prosperity, and by prioritizing mission-oriented research, we align with the goals of the European Commission and pave the way for meaningful progress. Today I popped into the office of ZCCE Zurich Centre for Creative Economies and found the freshly printed edition of the CIRCE - Creative Impact Research Centre Europe Report. 1 year, 5 research labs, 13 impact projects, 40 young fellows across Europe in 180 pages of final report (link to the digital edition in comments). It was a blast being project lead of the Zurich research lab. Together with our researcher we kept exploring entrepreneurial strategies within the #creativeeconomies. Three main findings crystallised in all our studies: 🎯 we don't need four-year strategy plans, we need continuous strategy processes. 🧨 We don't need ex ante definitions of results, but rather high-risk projects.  🎒 We don't need a narrow understanding of resources in terms of financial means, but a holistic view that includes values, governance and stakeholders. The CO-VALUE project’s kick-off meeting is happening this Thursday in Brussels! 🌟 In the CO-VALUE project, two territories (Alicante and Emilia Romagna) will carry out various types of co-valorisation experiments supported by Fondazione Giannino Bassetti and coordinators Stickydot. The experiment in Alicante will be led by Parque Cientifico de Alicante (PCA) and in Emilia Romagna region by ART-ER S. cons. p. a. Read on to learn more about our partners 🤝 Fondazione Giannino Bassetti is a pioneer and leading civil society organisation in Responsible Innovation (RI). The foundation has been implementing and supporting RI activities internationally in various scientific fields for the past 30 years. FGB is currently the coordinator or partner in several EU-funded projects on RI and citizen engagement. Currently, FGB is coordinating REINFORCING (https://lnkd.in/dn5aygQz) Parque Cientifico de Alicante (PCA) is the main innovation ecosystem in the province of Alicante. It has 35 linked companies (start-ups and corporates), which systematically embed R&D in their work. These 35 organisations have access and work with 2,400 full-time researchers of the University of Alicante as well as Master and PhD students. The PCA is a unique model of cooperation framed in an environment that is conducive to knowledge valorisation, cooperation and innovation. “Let’s get lost together- I know the way” was one of the quotes at yesterdays conference on transdisiciplinary science and innovation at Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam. transdisciplinary science and innovation is essential to help solving the wicked problems of todays society- but how to bring it into practice and how to enhance it?
