The Cicadas are coming and that is a good thing: They are harmless while maybe a bit annoying or fascinating, depending on one's perspective. They are harmless to people and pets, they can’t bite or sting. They are part of the cycle of nature, and if you want to, you can eat them, too. There is just some risk of damage to young and other vulnerable trees. The great cicada emergence of 2024 is likely to happen soon, a few cicada emergence tubes and chimneys had been found in late April. The mass of cicada Brood XIII will tunnel out of the soil when its temperature reaches 64 degrees at a depth of 8 inches. The emergence of periodical cicadas is a remarkable natural phenomenon that only occurs once in 17 years. For about four to six weeks there will be millions of big, red-eyed insects flying around and making an ear-splitting noise, especially in areas with lots of old trees. Enjoy, it will be another 17 years before we can experience such a spectacle of nature. And by the end of June it will all be over.

On this International biological diversity day, I would like to share my poem on the Rain Tree. The Rain Tree - A Crowning Glory Covered with clusters of pink-white flowers, Like small upturned brushes, Attracts pollinators like bees and butterflies, Supporting bio-diversity, A broad umbrella like canopy, Shady and dense in foliage, Alludes to folding up leaves before rain, Evergreen in nature, Quite tall in its stature, Amazing in maintaining moisture levels, Symbolizing growth and renewal, Monkey pod is its other name.
