Having diverse perspectives in Grand County's government is essential to ensuring that all voices in our community are heard. A variety of viewpoints brings fresh ideas and balanced decision-making, helping us address challenges from multiple angles. When we include people with different experiences and backgrounds, we can create more effective and innovative solutions that benefit everyone in Grand County, ensuring a future that reflects the needs and values of all residents. Keeping our government composition the same will only bring more of the same. It's likely that decisions will continue to reflect a narrower range of perspectives, limiting fresh ideas and innovative solutions. Without greater representation of different backgrounds, voices, and viewpoints, issues like environmental protection, affordable housing, and economic opportunities might not be addressed in a way that benefits everyone. It’s important to bring new energy and inclusivity into leadership to ensure that Grand County remains vibrant and responsive to the needs of all its residents. I am the candidate who will bring fresh ideas, new energy, and inclusivity into Grand County's leadership - ensuring that more voices are at the table. #Livability #Sustainability #WeAreGrand

It was my great pleasure to meet Dr. Moreno and discuss 15-Minute City as urban policy and climate change response. We talked about how car-free street can be harmonized with inclusiveness for seniors, babies and the disabled. Also, how mixed-zoning for proximity can be implemented in the field was discussed. It was very kind of him to sign a book for me and give me detailed answers. #15mininutecity #DrMoreno #proximity #carfreestreet #inclusiveness #mixedzoning #walkablecity #climatechange

We are delighted to be joining forces with Reall to tackle two of the most pressing challenges of our time: housing affordability and climate change! These interconnected crises are bigger than any one organization or government. Together, Habitat for Humanity International and Reall have over 80 years combined experience in affordable housing, from direct home construction and government advocacy, to expanding financial inclusion and testing new business models for affordable housing materials. Already, our two organizations have kicked off a webinar series examining the intersections of gender equity and affordable housing. Look out for the next installment in the series next month! #HousingForAll #Sustainability #ClimateResilience #AffordableHousing Jennifer M Cinelli-Oomen | Stephen Seidel | Roland Pearson | Luis Noda | Allison Burden | Jayamali Ranithri Kankanige | Mewahib Mohamed | Hannah Jayne Robinson (PhD)

Zoning policies play a crucial role in shaping our communities, but when they extend beyond basic safety regulations, they can hinder individual freedom and limit housing opportunities for many. This often creates barriers for minority and economically disadvantaged groups, preventing them from accessing affordable housing. It's important that we rethink how zoning is used, ensuring it promotes inclusivity and equal opportunities for everyone, regardless of their background. By prioritizing housing choice and removing unnecessary restrictions, we can create a more equitable future for all. This month ProGov21 is covering #water! 💧 Municipalities across the US are in dire need of updated infrastructure to ensure all residents have access to clean water. However, revamping water systems are expensive, and local governments must consider their most vulnerable residents when distributing costs. This month's featured policy, model ordinance, and policy roadmap provide strategies for keeping water systems safe and affordable. Featured Policy: Private water companies threaten access to sustainable and affordable water. In the Public Interest’s 2024 report exposes the political and acquisition strategies of private water companies and lays the framework for policymakers and advocates to push back against these entities. Check out the full report here → https://lnkd.in/gxHxbRy9 to learn how local governments can fight against the privatization of water resources. Model Ordinance: It is vital that individuals have access to safe and non-hazardous water. In 2018, New York City Council passed a Building Water Management Law that requires building owners to provide tenants with water filtration methods certified to reduce lead concentrations, or take a sample annually from each fixture that supplies water for drinking or cooking purposes to be analyzed for lead, and provide the results of the test to the tenant. Check out the ordinance here → https://lnkd.in/g2937AFG. Policy Roadmap: This month's roadmap by Griffin Beronio and Diana McFarland provides strategies and best practices for local leaders to improve water infrastructure while ensuring that rates stay affordable, including customer assistance programs, stormwater management, and wastewater reclamation. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/gfbcSCgX. Want more resources on water systems? Check out our library with thousands of documents from over 100 unique contributors: https://lnkd.in/e8SerQcE!

The Power of Parks 🌳 “Power and hope emerge in surprising places. Envisioning, planning, creating, and stewarding a park exemplifies social infrastructure, enabling communities to address social issues on their terms and replace despair and frustration with hope and action.” In SSIR’s summer issue, read about how the Trust for Public Land is helping communities from Hawai‘i to Washington, DC, revitalize their parks and build community power in the midst of ongoing social crises: “To respond to the times, parks and public spaces must become not just passive spaces but catalysts in forming a healthy polity. In caring for the commons of parks and green spaces, we nurture social solidarity, civic engagement, and a thriving democracy.” Read the full story >> https://lnkd.in/e8bgMN3X #democracy #parks #community #power
