Braskem has been selected by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Manufacturing and Energy Supply Chains to negotiate terms of a $50 million award under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. This landmark funding would expand Braskem's ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) production capabilities in La Porte, Texas, specifically targeting the lithium-ion battery separator (LIBS) market. Braskem sells UHMWPE under the trade name UTEC. By driving innovation in UTEC technology, this project would strengthen the lithium-ion battery value chain in the United States and is expected to generate over 250 skilled jobs across engineering, procurement, construction, and start-up phases. At next week's Center for Hydrogen Safety Americas conference, David Moore, President & CEO, will present a talk on how the hydrogen supply chain would benefit from an enterprise approach to Process Safety Management (PSM). The presentation will explain the application of PSM to hydrogen operations in manufacturing, production, and its use as a fuel. Lessons learned will be explained to show the value and benefits, even for operations that are not subject to PSM regulations. We're taking a staged approach to developing our HPA small scale production (SSP) plant. Why is this significant? 1. De-risking the project: By breaking development into stages, we can refine and optimize at each step. 2. Faster time to market: Our Stage 1 / Phase 1 engineering is nearing completion, paving the way for initial production. 3. Continuous improvement: Each stage allows us to incorporate learnings and the latest technologies. 4. Capital efficiency: This approach allows for more efficient use of capital, reducing upfront costs. 5. Flexibility: We can adapt to market conditions and emerging opportunities as we progress. Our current focus is on completing Stage 1 / Phase 1 engineering, with Phase 2 set to commence immediately after.
