#BP Plc plans to sell its onshore wind business in the US as it focuses on its solar arm Lightsource BP. The company is set launch a sale process for BP Wind Energy shortly, according to an emailed statement. It plans to integrate development of onshore renewable power into Lightsource, the statement added. “We believe the business is likely to be of greater value for another owner,” said William Lin, BP’s executive vice president for gas & low carbon energy. “This planned divestment is part of our strategy of continuing to simplify our portfolio and focus on value.” BP’s onshore wind business in the US includes stakes in 10 operating wind farms, with net total generating capacity 1.3 gigawatts. bp Lightsource bp Blog – Electricity – Market Performance – Sempra Edison and Pacific Gas - https://lnkd.in/grfkuyRM  

Oil and gas will remain central to the global energy mix for the foreseeable future, Rystad Energy reports, as the key hydrocarbon sources continue to satisfy global primary energy demand.

It makes sense. If there is a market for oil and gas someone will satisfy it. Deciding not to produce does not stop consumption. Only realistic alternatives will reduce consumption.

The sale, expected to be launched soon, includes assets across seven U.S. states with a total capacity of 1.7 gigawatts, valued at around $2 billion. This move aligns with BP's goal to transition into an integrated energy company, increasingly pivoting towards solar and onshore wind development to meet its low-carbon power needs and assist customers in their decarbonization efforts.
