For such a common ocular pathology, it’s surprising we still don’t completely understand the pathophysiology of chalazia. Does a bacterial component alter the lipid composition of meibomian secretions and trigger an inflammatory response? What activates the lipogranulomatous inflammation that causes chalazia? As more attention is focused on the ocular surface and meibomian glands, researchers may find answers to these and other questions about lid lumps. I study the pathology of autism pretty deeply. It certainly does have endocannabinoid features which are interesting, but it is more complicated than just ECS pathology. This study is from a private institute that studies ONLY autism and they have discovered that autistic folks have commonality around genes which are associated with cell adhesion. These cell adhesion molecules can and do get messed up under chronic inflammation. A different subset of these are what build antibodies. Further these cell adhesion molecules are how cells know to stick together to build an organ or a vessel or other structures. https://lnkd.in/gK6adruj
