"Decisions went from being made for the benefit of users, to the benefit of Google, to the benefit of whoever was making the decision." Last week, I came across Ian "Hixie" Hickson's reflection on his 18 years at Google. While there were many lines that resonated with me, this one in particular was one of the most memorable. I've been part of a start-up that enjoyed the freedom to make decisions based on right and wrong instead of the pockets of investors and stock prices. I've also seen the change that happens when companies go public and/or reprioritize their long-term vision for short-term goals. One of the most influencing factors in my joining Basis was The Corporate Manifesto, a handbook written by shawn riegsecker that outlines the vision, mission, core ideology, core values and governing principles of Basis Technologies. In this he states: "Corporations wrongly believe that numbers are paramount and employees are secondary, if not expendable. Basis Technologies believes that if a company’s goal is to increase the numbers, they should stop focusing on them. They should begin focusing solely on the well-being of their employees and customers and, in turn, the numbers will take care of themselves." Let me pause and read that again. 👀 Now, don't get me wrong...I know numbers will always play a role in decisions being made but being a part of an organization that prioritizes improving the lives of its clients and employees over the bottom line in today's corporate world seems to be an anomaly. It's probably one of the many reasons why Basis just ranked #1 on Ad Age's list of Best Places to Work 2024 list for Ad Tech. 🎉 https://lnkd.in/eag_83Gf Thank you to the everyone at Basis (past and present) who worked tirelessly to ensure this place and our product are the absolute best. And thank you to our amazing clients who have gifted us with the opportunity to partner, learn, and grow with one another. 🙏 May we never lose sight of the vision that got us where we are! 💙
