It's easier to build a billion dollar digital health company in emerging markets such as Southeast Asia than it is in the U.S. (or Europe) The lack of a legacy insurance system means self-pay is the way to go. Self-pay means an opportunity for direct-to-patient business models, with a faster feedback loop to get to product-market-fit, before going B2B2C eventually when the market is ready. No such thing as "Death by Pilot" in emerging markets with healthcare startups trying to get B2B(2C) distribution via an incumbent health system within 18-24 months before they run out of cash. And self-pay + direct-to-patient unlocks the holy grail of healthcare -- Value-Based Care -- as incentives are better aligned.
